your bap will always disrupt one of the other teams ECM, the closest, how that relates to two people in your team with bap effecting two ecm mechs i've no idea, either both will work on the closest mech, or the second will ignore the closest and effect the next closest enemy mech. (as long as both are in the 200 meter radius) its safer to assume only one of the ecm mechs will be effected

When you have both in your mech its usually safest to keep ECM set to disrupt.

However people always know when your around as their targeting systems are effected, even if they can't see you.

You can stop this by switching to counter, however if your visible to any other enemy mechs you can be targeted from outside the 200meter radius as your no longer using the ECM's disrupt.

its a balance that only experience can give you as to whats best to use at any one time.

edit to get up to date from Mcgral's post

it all is pretty obvious

but since bap counter range is larger than ecm it would be nice to be able to turn off ecm completely

also if ecm is destroyed bap should work fully too... as i have said i was told there may be a bug there which prevents it work fully even then

it makes the most sense, it is nice if it's so

it's pretty hard to test in a game -_-

Could be done quite easily if you set up a 1:1 private match but that requires a couple folks with premium time and a few players with ECM mechs to test out the various scenarios.

For example ... can you counter two ECMs with BAP and an ECM running in counter mode? Edit: Apparently not according to earlier posts .. oh well.

Sensor warfare needs a complete overhaul anyway... things like on/off switch for ECM are trivial. We need sensor warfare to actually matter first.

If anything, I want a way to turn ECM off completely so that I am not running Disrupt or Counter, so that I may be sneaky the way I please.
Since having it on Disrupt while sneaking around behind the enemy will allow them to know you are there if you get too close, and running in Counter will do the same should you close with an ECM-equipped enemy... all assuming the pilots you get close to have the time/ability to notice that they are being jammed/countered, which apparently not everyone can see. *COUGHnewcomersCOUGH*
