You could always dig into the archives :).

When digging around this weekend I found my MechWarrior 2 CD for the PC :D. Its the original DOS version so I'm not sure how much of a headache it will be to run through DOS BOX, but I'm guessing a massive headache (if it even runs).

I have it on PlayStation also, but it is MechWarrior 2 (light). Small maps and no mechbay :/.

Any way, there are ISOs online too. Just grab a classic MW game and have fun.

This is a mechwarrior virtual machine, essentially a preconfiged Dosbox emulator ready to run Mech 2 if you have the disks or ISO's... it's the best way to play the game... you can also get it set up to run some of the 3DFX versions floating around.

thought you might appreciate this.

There's other ways to run Dosbox that doesn't require in depth knowledge of dosbox configurations.

Personally, I really like D-Fend Reloaded, I use it for all my DOS games including MW2:

MechVM is ready to go, it doesn't require you to know dosbox config's at all... it's completely pre-setup to run MW2, MW2 GB, and MW2 Mercs. as well as Netmech.

All MechVM requires is that you have the Disks/ISO's and it's ready to go.

Correct, I didn't mean to assume it was more complicated.

Though personally when I tried MechVM years ago I could never get it to work. Maybe I'll give it another try if its been getting updates over the years.

If anyone want to see anything even resembling a MW PVE type game play option, ever again, they should spend a few dollars on MWO. If one has already, perhaps spend some more. ;)

Otherwise enjoy those DosBox versions and for crying out loud, don't scratch or lose those precious old MW CD's. :)

"MechWarrior 2 works almost perfectly for me in DOSBox 0.72, including 1024x768 resolution, movies, and sound."

if this game will be in PGIs hands till 2018... then there is no hope for mechwarrior

in the last 2 years they lost more players than they actually gained ...

I'd spend more... if I didn't have 2k sunk into it already.

I'd personally hope they continue improvements and work up the hill rather then let it roll down myself. I think the next 6-8 months may make or break this game.

maybe 9-12 months, but they are certainly at the corner of "awesome" and "nowhere"

Transverse wasn't a battletech game. It also failed because they were trying to compete with Star Citizen and Elite Dengerous. There were also a handful of disheartened players actively working to sabotage the game. It also didn't use any money from MWO.

I (and I imagine many others) are pretty convinced by the way things have improved here that IGP really was behind a lot of the issues faced with MWO. I think sales of mech packages would show that people are still willing to back and support PGI.

Don't be so sure. MWO has reignited many people's love of battletech/mechwarrior. MW5 didn't get backing because they were trying to revive an IP that had been cold for 10 years. Now they have something going. With the PvE assets in the works, they may have an easier time securing funding.

There will be even more exposure (and backing) once it hits Steam.
