a few weeks ago I played my first CW game. I was dropped as part of a group which seemed to be composed of mainly first time players for this mode and we were the attackers. In principle I think the game mode is simple enough. It tells you to destroy the generators for the gates then for the cannon and then the cannon itself.
In our group however no one knew where the gate generators where. If you play for the first time you do not know what they look like and where exactly they are located (apart from the symbol on the battlegrid which tells you its somewhere around the gate).
Similarly in the counter attack mode it happens that you try to attack the orbital cannon just to find out you can not damage it. Now it might be that not everyone is as stupid as me and recognizes that the mobile HQ has to be attacked, but I still think it would not be to hard to provide a simple small guideline for players which are new to this mode, to show them what their targets look like.
So I would suggest to put up a small video in the training ground on the website which explains the different modes and shows the targets (maybe even giving a few hints about the current metagame). The game could then pop up a warning for every player who tries CW for the first time to ask if he wants to visit the site first for an explanation.
tl;dr: Make a small tutorial (pictures/text or video) about the CW game modes on the website and provide a link in the game.
