So I'm currently running the repair tool as requested in the weekend update, and so far its found files and updating them.

Just thought I'd make a subject on it to catch the eyes of those who might not watch the little updates on the weekend.

I happened to do it entirely separate of the notice, and yea, found a bunch of files. I was surprised til I saw the headlines next time I logged in.

Given how long it's taking me, you owe it to yourself to do it now rather than later. You'll have nobody but yourself to blame if you don't do it ahead of time and get stuck for an hour or longer just to repair the installation.

Finished mine, all set for patch day. Had to have downloaded a gig at least.

I had to restart mine numerous times, and have nursed it the last few hours (2.2 Mbit/s) and still have about 6 .paks to go. It has crashed at least six times. I advise people to not do it over night.

How can the download speed be so low?

I have a 100M connection and 1,5gb of repair tool files to download and they are trickling in at modem speeds. I'm used to a few gigabytes being downloaded in the span of a few minutes, not in a few days. This isn't quite as bad as using the repair tool to download the entire game was, but it is still pretty damn ridiculous.

WTB more server bandwidth.

Patch day could still be painful regardless of the pain you already felt with all this...

You know it and I know it...

I get my IIS group on this; run the full diagnostic, batch the installer to optimize the install of the new patch...oh, wait...wrong company; I don't work PGI; ok, back to doing it myself.

Limited server bandwidth.

Everyone needs to get this done before patch day, I predict much wailing and gnashing of teeth when the server dies under load of the patch day.

Ran it today. Took me 10.5 hours. No crashes and game is all good. Am based in Australia.

Over 3Gb downloaded for me so glad i have done it before next patch.

Cheers Eboli

Say what now? Where did you see to run the repair tool before tuesday? I'm confused.

Yeah - I caught the announcement at the end of the Weekly Roundup. I wonder if the servers will be deserted come patch day.

I'm assuming everyone who doesn't do this will be downloading a much larger portion of data from a much busier server.

Yes, I assume that is the case as well - especially as PGI strongly hinting that everyone should run the Repair Tool now in order to avoid further patch day trauma (drama).

The patch sounds like it is already going to be bigger than normal also so I wonder whether new files for the user interface will start to get placed into the patch and maybe the big event planned for later this week may have a few surprises.

Cheers!

They can't dynamically allocate more bandwidth to the patcher as needed? Also what about using torrent technology, I thought modern games could do this?

Yeah I'm all for torrenting patches, there are a few games that do that (WoW?) and it seems to be faster.
