Make it work like a conquest point. When you capture the point you get a sentry tower that works as a stationary mech except that it autolocks anything it can lock within its view/range.
For instance, if you capture the tower opposite to the low slope of candy mountain on Alpine (you know which one) you get a good view on candy mountain and easier locks. The ability can be disabled by destroying a generator close by (which is always outside a line of fire), getting in an ECM mech, or capturing the point to neutral. It might actually make people move around more and capture or deny strategic points and give lights something very useful to do, plus, give some info on where the last mech might be to flush it out.
I understand this towers might be strategically OP so these sensor towers should be very rare and only positioned on some very large maps on useful but not too useful positions.
Variations on these towers are ECM towers (very rare, limited range coverage), BAP turrets (not so rare, no ECM within a limited range) or Seismic towers (not so rare, give pings on the map in a limited range). Doesn't have to be a turret; can be a vehicle or crashed dropship too. As long as parts of the map become more interesting to visit or keep out of.

In a way, though here it's more like a sighting tower as in Star Craft. The idea is actually to give some more variation to the game play and have actual benefits of holding a conquest area in Conquest or Skirmish or CW.
