Patch Times

That's really quite insane, as it basically wipes out any chance of me playing today. And I'm on decent broadband on a machine that has no problems playing the game. This is just raw server to me download fun.
Not the end of the world for me, but right now I honestly think the biggest barrier to entry for this game is the incredible amount of time it takes to actual start playing it.

I bet that you didn't run the repair tool before the patch.
Not your fault, it was poorly communicated, there should have been an announcement in the launched it self telling you to run it before this patch hit.

Well you should have done this then before the patch....

Otherwise you will be there a while...
Most problems i see peeps having when patching is due to ISP issues and NOT mwo but this one might be a bit different then the latter.

curious, as I thought I had done that. Hence my assumption of metric flipton of info and slow delivery.
Could be the ISP I guess, but everything else runs through fine and dandy.

Yes, it should of. Much like when VOIP was added and it wasn't announced on the launcher.

Honestly happy for you. Well, that and a bit jealous.
But then again my cat decided to muscle in on my lap whilst my stupid ape arms weren't flailing around, so we're quite possible even.
However my main beef is that my average is an hour+ (patch time, a clean install is two or so) and I can find no reason for it as nothing else of the size takes that long to download. I know ISP paths and all that are a chain of smoke and mirrors, but whilst I'm not going to ask for EURO servers for the game itself maybe some DL mirrors to take the pain away wouldn't be too much to ask?

Again, I did and I had, afaik, done all the bits asked.
I just get stupid slow delays on patch day, and today it was worse by about an hour

Got online within minutes of the servers coming back up today. Patch took ~5 min. In the past I have noticed that if you're slow on the draw that PGI's servers bog down pretty quickly. Any time after noon (Pacific) it's going to take over an hour to patch simply because so many people are attempting to download the patch at the same time.

So I just ran the patch today and it took 45 min. But my ping off the server is usually around 50ms at 70mb/s DL and my box be beastly.

I did, the download took me about 2 hours. The servers dont give sufficient bandwith to download, I have an max of 2.3mbit they give me like 10 kbit...

Certainly done before I noticed while working on some locust writeup related stuff.
Then I got my Locust, and it was good.

I use twin sticks, so I know the pain of losing it - always keep a backup.

Short of emailing everyone, I'm not sure how much better advertised it could have been.

Nope. I don't usually read about the repair tool, because the game runs pretty stable. So I don't have a need/desire to read Repair tool threads, posts or tweets.

I only saw it on the launcher as a side-bar entry. Given how important it was they could have had it on the scrolling marquee to really get the message across. But, as you said, they went to town on this one so that's 'every possibly action' comment rather than a criticism of their attempts as a whole.
Given the problems announced with EU connections today I'm thinking that might be the problem, though I'm still not sure if an hour or so to DL the basic game is a good thing (even if that's just my ISP's issue that's a fair chunk of the UK market going 'nahh, can't be arsed to wait that long')
