If you don't have LOS, it's important to remember that until you get ~450m your lrms travel in pretty much a straight line. Beyond ~450m, they can go over obstructions. But, ideally, yeah, you want to be as close to your enemy as possible without having to worry about them closing to less than 180m where IS lrms do no damage.
