Kerbal wasn't 100% complete when it hit Steam. When I bought the game, it was just a sandbox (everything available from the start).
They have added a lot of things since then. A nicer space complex, more rocket components, a science tree requiring science points to unlock more stuff. Also the game was a bit buggy. It could freeze up if you accelerated time too much ( especially if the item was parachuting down close to the ground).
Also, the game is a bit unfriendly for new players. I had to go on YouTube to get an idea how to make a space plane properly (to start out anyway).
It is a great game, but it isn't perfect and it wasn't perfect or complete when I got it on Steam.
P.S. I'm not saying MWO is perfect nor do I believe it to be on Par with Kerbal. Kerbal did at least have a small tutorial. What I am getting at is Kerbal wasn't the perfect launch title you made it out to be.
Also, Kerbal doesn't have to deal with continous balancing that a multiplayer game goes through. That is a monster to tackle regardless.
