I had a Highlander like this once. "Features" included:
1) An odd happen of crashing the game and/or disconnecting far more with that mech than any other.
2) Being attacked by a teammate at match start for no reason at all while in that mech. Not sure if that's happened to me any other time, though at least I killed him in turn.
3) Dropping once with no ammo (back when there were no warnings for that) - an embarrassing error that was promptly "corrected" by the game crashing.
This was soon followed up with the Gauss Rifle nerf and the temporary mangling of the Highlander missile tube count, which resulted in my main weapon no longer working properly and my SRM's streaming idiotically. I eventually sold that cursed mech.
VOOOOOODDOOOOOOO!!!!
I am going to begin a chronical for this mech here. i would start with some older matches that were so bad it is memorable, but I will keep it fresh.
Tonight, Canyon map skirmish:
I sat in mechlab, looking at this mech. This QKD 5K. I have it painted Liao Black, with some Clan Wolf "brown" (Copper as it looks to me). The right partition of the cockpit glass glinted back at me with it's orangish-gold glare. My mouse hovered over the "play now" button as i debated my fate. my finger twitched, and the button pressed. Did i press it? Was it a reflex? did the mech call to me.... forcing my hand? It was too late...no it wasn't, i could cancel..... no, the mech..... the mech needed this. yes, it is too far along now, I am committed to this mech regardless of the suffering I endure, the mech hungers for DERP.
I drop in, one lancemate AFK as match starts. I am in the far right lance on the back side of map. i turn to the left to run into the narrow canyon to join my team mates as they will in all likelyhood move to camp the center in true pug style. Wait... the center lance is really, really slow to move. Wait, the left lance... why are they running to B3? Away from the team? Wolfpack? Now some of the center assault lance are moving that way.
"Push B4 then?" I inject into team chat, trying in desperation now to get this team to gel before it is too late. My lancemates have already split up, AFK guy still parked, one is trying to run up an impossible slope in the canyon wall to get a view, the other was behind me, but now had turned around and was apparently going to go around the long way around back.
On the radar, a red dorito appears by the far light lance. Spider 5V. There are 5 team mates, and one spider. I see my blue team doritos start spinning in circles, even though the spider is mostly just strafing. Eventually, the Spider has an arm exposed(who cares it is a 5V) and runs back off. This was enough to draw most of my team that way though. Good, i thought, maybe they will at least chase and we will have a forced push around the end.
NO. 3 assaults, a HBK and some others have crowded down into the very end of that canyon. but they saw.... an Oxide. So they stopped, and half tried to turn around to retreat. Blobbed all together, red plume of smoke appears, paltry salvoes of maybe 10 clan LRM are sailing in, but it is enough. Enough for these guys. We lose 2 getting shot in the back by a centurian on the top of the cliff side.
During this time, I have been shooting my pulse laser alphas into anything that showed itself at that cliff side, because there was no way i was going to go stand in that crowd of retreating derp. I would cover the retreat. I put Oxide into deep red CT. didn't see him again the whole match. Took the arm off cent, made his amror orange, he backed down. FS9 was plinking there too, put some shots on him. We are down 5 mechs. no, now it is 6, the YOLO guy that went around the long way found their assault lance.
team retreat found their way behind my QKD, and stopped and turned around. Apparently, I am good to hide behind. Oh well, might as welll make the best of this. So as enemy clammer mechs are trying to play peek a boo, I peek back. i expose a few ST(nova, TBR, took off the ST of that cent) But I am taking dmg, because assault lance is trying to poke too, and my cover is sparse as I positioned up top to try to hold back the enemy. Eventually, I duck off the side, join my team mates. half turn around and retreat farther. WUT. I am destined to be THE front line. Fine. I move to attack mode, almost core the TBR and get a few more opportunistic shots on the nova and FS9 before i succomb, 460+ dmg one kill(I dont even know what) and move to spectate.
griffin on my team almost instantly dies. didnt even see his loadout. We are down to 3 mechs. Click next. Myst Lynx, has no arm, only ECM. Running in circles around our one Stalker. Click Next. beat up HBK. fires off 3 ML at something, dies. next.
The Stalker. The one that didnt push, the one that was first to turn around every time. I see now why. Loadout: He was moving at 52KPH I looked it up. 250 engine rating, after tweak. 2x LRM20 +artemis. Thats it. No I am not kidding. mmo count, as one of the last mechs standing after 12 minutes of match: 3400+. LOLWUT. AFTER shooting LRM into walls all match, he has 3400 missiles left. he has both ST showing. He is moving to the back far corner. Myst Lynx dies. I see 4 enemy crest the cliff side to his immediate right. he begins to turn...SPLODE. dies. Dies to.... RT LOSS. thats right, XL250 Stalker, with only 2x LRM20 mounted.
Go to Smurfy, and look how much tonnage of LRM ammo it takes to exceed 3400 LRMS.
THE CURSE!!!!!
