Lately I've seen quite a few posts berating those who LRM boat in an assault. I agree with this sentiment. Being a 100-tonner with little to no backup weapons is a quick way to screw over your team, as you're wasting tons of armor that could go elsewhere.

I did this myself not long ago, 4x LRM-15's in an Atlas-S. This was a mistake for multiple reasons. The one above, and the fact that the Atlas-S has only enough missle tubes for 1x LRM 10, and 3x LRM-5.

So, to fix my mistake, I'd like to make a better Atlas-S LRM *boat*. Not really a boat anymore, this Atlas has just enough LRM's that will fit inside the tubes, while still allowing a decent sum of firepower for brawling, making it a mixed-range mech.

That's the build I'm thinking of right now, but I'd love to hear your suggestions for this.

UPDATE: Artemis Version:

UPDATE 2: Artemis W/Standard Engine

Rules:
1: Must be an Atlas-S
2: Must use 1x LRM-10, 3x LRM-5 (Can be artemis or non)
3: Have fun

So, post away! I'd love to see your ideas!

An Atlas isn't an Atlas without a BFG.

LOL i'm afraid you're not going to get a lot of response with that title.

There is a time and place for everything, even the LRM atlas, don't believe the haters. I've been playing an LRM AS7-S for the past week and is loving it (in both solo and group queue).

Lose the BFG and forget about the missile pods size. You are a missile boat now, Night Thastus of Clan Jade Falcon. You should only worry about how much you can dish out in the shortest amount of time possible.

The window to hit an enemy with LRMs is so small these days with ECM and Radar Dep everywhere, so the LRM10, 3xLRM5 is not going to do much impact. I'm afraid Rule no. 2 has to be broken, try the 3xLRM15s, or 4xLRM10s. You'll need a TAG because you'll be in the front-lines, the Atlas's natural habitat, LRMs or no LRMs. Artemis is compulsory for any missile boat. Also, remember to bring the proper modules.

Ideal range of engagement, within 180m - 270m, so your MLasers can get some action. Your primary targets are the big baddies. If the enemies/lights get close, you need to remain calm and take it for the team, keep focusing on the enemies in the distance. Communication is key.

I should be running the build I linked for a while and I'm happy to discuss about it in-game if you want to know more, just add me. Good luck and have fun.

If you LRM in your Atlas make sure at least you're actively trying to get LOS. You're going to hit more enemies that way, your Artemis (if you choose to carry it) will take effect, and you're helping to tank for your team. Tanking damage is 50% of the reason why you're there. Don't be the 100 ton mech that sits behind buildings and use the AC20 only as a backup weapon.

I agree with the LOS bit. You'll need a bigger engine, IMO at least a STD340 because you will need to be constantly moving and re-positioning.
