The tonnage limits are an important and interesting aspect of tactics during a CW match. Do not **** that up.

I mean, why not? Why is it that Inner Sphere get more tons to play with when fighting Clans compared to when engaging the Inner Sphere?
I suppose that's yet another question added to the list of why ridiculous practices remain in this game, a-la ghost heat...

Really the one "immersive" thing about CW currently is that the drop ships can carry only just so much weight down to the planet. The first line is not meant to be a real idea, but it would unfortunately be the simplest way to balance everything out and make the poor pugs happy so they could drop with their 4 assaults and lrm boats while not getting insta-shredded.
Yeah, because a 60-point LRM alpha strike is just like a 60-point laser alpha strike.

[·] If I take the heaviest of the 4 classes, it adds up to 265=35+55+75+100, so if I happen to have those 'mechs I can't play and I should be allowed to because I'm only taking 1 of each class which is why we get to choose 4 'mechs with a low tonage and not the maximum 400T, right?
[·] I'd like you to set it up to 310T so i can take my heavies and assault only to battle, I don't like and I'm not and probably never will be a medium or light 'mech pilot, so 310T isn't much to ask I think: I can take a Stalker and 2 thunderbolts and a Banshee to battle, this should be a consideration at least, this would open a window for pilots that don't like heavies or assaults and prefer mediums and lights.
The whole point of setting the drop weight below 260 is precisely to prevent people from bringing only the heaviest mech for each class.
Do you want to bring only assaults? Then ask PGI to make the 4-mech drop a maximum and not a hard requirement. At 250 total weight, that should allow you to bring 3 assaults.

Just one word to start, No. If the tonnage limit is increased for IS then the tonnage limit will be increased for clan. There are already enough timberwolfs, hellbringers, and stormcrows running around. Community Warfare would be rediculous to play if Caln could make an entire timberwolf dropdeck.
Also if that were to happen, I can't imagine why anyone would play IS anymore. It would be a battle of futility at that point.

Because most of your mediums have higher alphas than most of our assaults. The extra tonnage is there to allow us to throw a little more weight at them since you outclass us at equal tonnage.

Who in their right mind would take lights then? Even medium mechs on the IS teams would be far and few.

fixed that for you.
1/1/1/1? Welcome back to stacking 35tons, 55tons, 75tons, and 100tons. No tonnage limit -> lower viability of mechs below the maximum tonnage in a weight class. No more Blackjacks, no more Quickdraws, no more Locusts, no more Dragons, no more Battlemasters. All those mechs are widely used because they are tonnage efficient. It hearkens back (even if weakly) to the old Battle Value metric used in TT to regulate the quantity of firepower you can bring to the battlefield. Going to 1/1/1/1 would ruin this and be quite frankly... boring. Just like public queue min-max'ing.
No matter what is done there will always be those who will try to win at any cost, this is what ruins a game. Super l33t playarz doing their best to exploit an advantage any way they can...... 12 light mech rushes ??? While they would never dream of playing "in the spirit of the game"
And you will probably love to flame me for this, but I run my mechs very close to stock, as I do not think much of meta builds, remember how they were forced into nerfing ppc's and jump jets , because of that approach to playing?
There will be no easy fix, as holes will always be found and trucks driven through them.
As for ruining half the game, you might want to consider those 5up3r 133t playaz exploiting a flaw, that there is causing angst among the player base.

A soft cap might be up to a certain amount of tonnage where your mechs and drop are 'free' and don't cost extra c-bills to deploy. This could be up to the current limit or something similar
After that, you could then have a hard cap out to 280 tons (random, arbitrary number) where you can bring extra weight BUT you have to pay for that weight depending on what you'd like to bring. If you go with this method, it would allow people to have a bit more flexibility in the mechs they want to bring but still have to give something up. In this case it could be c-bills.
So you want to penalize the poor.. .bad idea.
