Hi auto cannons or AC's, and energy weapons had names like Sunglow Type 2 laser or Luxor D-Series ac 10. It might not change the game much but it would give a more detailed feel to the game.

In the fluff of the lore they did indeed have different manufacturers, names, and function differently. The weapons as a whole are lumped into categories which is where the AC20, 10, 5, and 2 come from. Each is a rating of the amount of damage they do. You could have one AC10 shooting 2-3 slugs, and another shooting 10. However within a specific time frame (I don't remember) they both added up to roughly the same amount of damage dealt out.
In the table top you just used a 'category' for the weapon because while it may have mattered in realtime, in the lore and fluff of the books, the TT used 10 second chunks of time and therefore negated the functionality of the AC's differences (the same with all other weapons too actually, not every laser or PPC fired the same, nor every missile of the same category) but made it easier to establish simple, defined rules about a weapon.
While I would love to have stuff like this added, multiple AC5s which all act slightly different from one another, some lending themselves to hit and run while others suppressing an enemy under sustained fire... MWO simply isn't set up to balance that sort of system properly, as its having trouble just being balanced in its current state similar to bandages being placed one after another to stop the bleeding of a wound when it was never stitched up in the first place and thus just keeps bleeding.

Well I did not mean actually changing the stats of the weapons just have the names or the player could name them like renaming mechs that's all i meant to say.

Unless we have varied weapons of different manufacturer and model there's no reason to not use the category name. It keeps it simple and easy to remember, plus allows any new players to understand the structure of the weapon's system far quicker than if we started naming them random things.
The idea is still better however than the 'ingame ads' proposal someone had renaming maps for companies and putting ingame product advertisement around the maps.
