Any rumblings out there of us eventually getting more than two teams? Obviously would be a lot of work on PGI's end, but they're doing solaris eventually, and they'd at a minimum need FFA as part of that.

8v8v8 would work on some of the largest maps, 4v4v4 or even 4v4v4v4 or more teams would work on most of the others. 4v4v4v4v4v4 on Alpine or even Mordor could be pretty amazing, since you'd be forced to go somewhere other than the big central location.

With two teams, you almost always know where the enemy is going to be. With three or more, you never know, because at best the other two teams will be fighting over a particular location. Three teams would at least somewhat require scouting, raise the TTK without making 1v1 terrible, and require some tactics other than "stand in a blob and win by sheer force of numbers", since your blob would naturally be outnumbered 2 to 1 in a three team game.

More than two teams hasn't worked in, well, any multiplayer game I've ever played. But could it work here?

I'd play it. However it might divide our precious queue.

For this to work, PGI would need to basically steal a game mode from another game that made it work first. If it's just a team deathmatch, people will try to either avoid combat or gang up on a single team, so you need a game mode that forces engagements and doesn't give people time to hang back.

I'm thinking something like King of the Hill or Capture the Flag with respawn, where the objective is in the middle of the map and the teams have to either hold the center or escort some kind of objective back to their corner.

It's all academic though. This will never happen, unless the Steam release brings in a million new players.

A game with PvPvP was done pretty nicely with Wrath of Heroes
Relic Capture
Point Capture
King of the Hill
Capture the flag

3 teams of 6 in that game.

Borrowing that would be awesome.

  • LocationStill doing ungodly amount of damage, but with more accuracy.

Shame a MP only game such as MWO does not have capture the flag mode, while the older Mechwarrior 4 had such modes.

Never played StarCraft?

This is probably game-engine limited, but I see a lot of good potential here. Especially in a game with inherent cross-faction / multi-faction rivalries.

CryEngine has multi-side support. Would be very cool for Solaris and eventually in CW.
