I think it should be possible to wipe out factions... Like, right now, Smoke Jaguar has 2 planets left. I'd love to see an Operation Bulldog event, and if the IS wins, the Jags cease to exist until the next map reset
Having some measure of stakes would be interesting.

It now takes a minimum of 4 hours to take any planet and other than a miniscule faction bonus of C-Bills and Loyalty points for taking zones, what good is it? Especially knowing that the end game has nothing to do with how many planets are taken or defended. Given what we now know, there is really no point in taking planets. Winning or losing planets in the current system is irrelevant. Why would anyone want to spend 4 hours in CW to take planets that mean nothing?!?!
Pride?
I dont know its a video game, find your own reason to do it..... im guessing about the same reason you would want to win in a normal game.

Sorry, this sounds great, but people will hate it. Light mechs would just run in and destroy the targets and everyone will complain that they aren't playing Rock'Em Sock'Em Robots.
That's why it should be limited to mediums, lights.

I understand where the sentiment is coming from, but it's important to note that the game is continually being developed. It will get better, slowly, but still that's something.
As for why? Well, if you are playing the game for a particular prize or reward, you are wasting your time. If you aren't having fun, you shouldn't be playing, because your time is valuable. It's something you can never get back. Don't waste your free time playing if you aren't enjoying it. CW currently offers a game-mode to have prolonged battles with multiple mechs, which provides more options for how to go about fighting. The reward is in the gameplay itself.
I think at some point we have to go back to the old days of gaming, when we'd establish our own goals and challenges. I remember playing the original Sonic the Hedgehog for hours and hours. After I beat it over and over again, I started making up my own challenges: Complete the level only acquiring a max of five rings. Use only every other bubbler in the Labyrinth. I had a lot of fun playing the game in ways that offered no programmed reward, but rather I gave myself some satisfaction by imposing my own rules and achieving my own objectives.
We've lost some of that, I think, and so we have lost some of the fun of gaming. If you can't add your own personal touch in the game, then you are stuck solely with what the devs give you, and we know that that will not always be to our own personal liking.

This is not about the people who are playing CW, we already know who we are and why we are playing. If you have not already noticed, the number of players who find their "own reason to do it" are not enough to support CW. There was a new map released in the patch today and PGI reduced the number of zones per planet to 13. After these changes there are about 100 people playing CW in NA prime time. This is too small a number to sustain CW gameplay and I am sure these low numbers are not what PGI envisioned for CW. CW is currently running on life support and PGI needs to do something significant to revive it.

They should seriously consider reducing the effort that is required to take a planet so that the "invasion" could be run through more quickly. Maybe start at a point where the clan owns half and IS the other half. You sign a contract for the length of the invasion and can change only after one side of the other has won. An invasion should take about 2 weeks and then another could start.

Agreed, 90% of my unit is taking a well deserved break from the game. Tournament is fun but it's like the playoffs in that sometimes you're happy the season is over for awhile.
