So by now, most people are comfortable saying they understand how Elo works, that is not the point of this thread nor is weight matching or weightclass matching.

Actually given the latest BS thread, it is abundantly clear that the majority of people have absolutely no understanding of how ELO works... and that is the real issue :(

Might be an issue, but it's an issue unrelated to this thread.

I am primarily concerned with how the individual player placement is decided for each team and the order of events for that single action.

I am currently reading through that "Paging Karl Berg" thread, but if anyone has a link for the post that deals with this, please don't hesitate to make is know.

The thread has been buried for so long that I wouldn't have any idea where to begin. Lot's of good info in there besides the mm stuff though.

Most people don't realize the biggest difference in players of different Elo levels is consistency. High Elo players just make better strategic decisions more often- better positioning, better focus fire, better prioritizing threats. People fail to realize the guy who died first doing piddly damage carried the whole team in his last game. They just assume he is some "low Elo scrub that they are supposed to carry".

Lots of these questions have been answered by the devs ...

Here is a link to a post I made summarizing some of it.

http://mwomercs.com/...ost__p__4349777

Simple version ...
1) The player who has been in queue longest becomes the seed for the next match
2) Players are added alternately to both teams starting within a narrow Elo window and satisfying mech weight class constraints
3) If the queues are getting large then the weight class constraint can be relaxed
4) If it is taking too long to gather sufficient players in the required weight class and Elo range then the matchmaker relaxes the Elo constraint over time
5) If the teams being formed this way start to develop an Elo bias then the matchmaker can assign the next higher Elo player to the team with the lower average Elo ... but still within the constrained Elo window.

Wow, that's a link i'll be putting in the "save forever" folder. Thank Mawai. This information gets burried so deep, I have been around for a long time and might have even seen it at one point, but going back to find such resources is pretty horrible on this website unless you specifically remember or have saved the link (like I just have). I'll even be copying it all to a local text document. I must always have this for reference!

Well, that thread post has all the relevant links that answers all the question I had. Thanks a lot man. I had been searching and reading too long for this information I could cry, but my eyes are too dry from reading.

Except that basing your video on an incorrect assumption will tend to turn out poorly...

But the fact is that I understand how Elo works, I've already found that resource and have been simply going through the details of the remaining questions which have now been linked/answered. Thanks for your concern though. This thread has not been about how Elo works, but rather what MM does with that information.

From personal experience, I can tell you that late at night, or during events like Tukayyid that suck people out of the regular que, the game compensates by filling your team with Bots.

No other explanation for how terrible some of the players are you get saddled with and expected to carry.

Their solution for AI is a mouse and keyboard in a pen with a bunch of pugs. Also coat the buttons with bacon grease. ;)

Well we will certainly know soon enough whether you do or not, but making a video that attempts to explain matchmaking to someone on the assumption that THEY understand ELO seems problematic given that they most likely do NOT understand ELO.

I agree that a matchmaker tutorial would be beneficial and I recognize that most do state that they understand ELO; however, it is abundantly clear that in reality they simply do not. Therefore I disagree with your assertion that the majority actually understand ELO and as such am skeptical how much a MM tutorial will actually help the issue :(

Nevertheless, good luck and may Kerensky guide your work!

Elo*

thanks for the good luck, I'll be getting input on the video plenty prior to actually putting it out as a resource.

Elo/ELO - ether is acceptable; indeed even Chess waffles between the two. Generally 'Elo' when followed be rating, ranking, system etc vs 'ELO' when used alone.

No prob - looking forward to it.
