Hello!
I wanted to make this thread cause i'm a big mech warrior fan. I was kind of disappointed in my gaming experience. I've been having really bad lag issues where the game runs normally but in a slow 30-40 fps so i've been missing some crucial shots cause the game just spikes randomly. My ping seems to be in 120-200 range so that doesn't help either..
Also i've been randomly getting stuck on trying to connect to a game.
The loading thing buffers endlessly so i have to ctrl+alt+del and kill the process.
This means i can get into a game 2 out of 3 times so every 3rd game is a dud.
Before everyone starts yelling toaster pc. My pc is way overkill for this game. I can run startcraft and hawken on ultra no problem. This game i only get lag on public games. On the tutorial thing i had zero lag.
I'm from finland so i suspect the games server is in the USA somewhere?
Is MWO going to get an european server up and running soon? I know this game is a beta but all i'd love to have is answers. I'm willing to wait till the service gets better cause i really like this game. It's just the bad server performance that ruins the mood.
Thanks.

Okay, there are a lot of questions here, and I'll try to answer them all. This game is not coded efficiently at all. You say that your computer is overkill for this game, but you're graphics settings are probably not doing you any favors. This game is highly CPU based. If you are running anything on high or very high, turn it down to medium. (My system is way overkill for this game too, so I feel your pain with this. I run most settings on low and some on medium and I get between 120-140 fps.) Also, if you have SLI or Crossfire, I'm pretty sure they don't currently work with this game and may be bogging down your fps. They may have recently implemented SLI, but Crossfire definitely not at this point. Also, turn AA off.
Your ping isn't too bad and shouldn't effect much.
They've had some issues recently with their latest patch. If it says searching . . . just wait. It sometimes takes a while. It has gotten a lot better recently.
What endless loading thing do you mean??
The lag in a live game is because in the tutorial or training grounds you're up against static mechs that are server based, versus 23 other live mechs from all around the world.
Yes the server is in Canada. Yay for me, but bad for our non-North American friends. On the positive side, this truly is a world wide game.

just wanted to add, in my experience MWO does not work well over a WiFi connection, so if you are playing over WiFi try playing over a wired network connection if possible.
I usualy get 100-110 ping and the game is quite playable, but over WiFi I was getting frequent lag and desynchs with exactly the same ping

Thanks for the fast answers. I'm playing on cable and i have a 100mbit connection.
So to get the game working better i should turn down the graphics even though my GTX can handle greater?
Guess it's just the beta coding which needs a rework..
Yeah when i'm on the homepage and i press play button, it starts searchign for a match.. After it's done searching and it wants to connect me to the match, the game stays on loading forever.. I once pressed the play button and went to the toilet.. The game was STILL LOADING.. After going ctrl + alt + del, i discovered that the game was not responding.

I don't code, so I don't know what the issue is. A higher end graphics card definitely helps, but until two years ago I was running this just fine with an 8800 GTS with 512 mb of memory. As far as the game being in Beta, PGI says it's not anymore, although it kind of still feels like it is.
I honestly don't know if PGI will ever be able to rework the coding to make it more efficient.
Let us know if it's still getting stuck on the loading screen. If it is, you may need to run the repair tool.

You can try only lowering some of the video settings. Some of them have a large effect on FPS, and others very little effect, so you may be able to gain quite a lot of FPS with little loss in visuals. The "Environment" setting and anti-aliasing are huge FPS hogs in particular, while many of the others have little effect.
This is elaborated on this Reddit post:
http://www.reddit.co...ngs_effect_fps/
I've preferred to run at medium-to-low settings which give me 60-70ish FPS in Training Grounds. The thing is, your FPS can go down 50% or more when the action gets intensive (smoke, sparks, lots of mechs), and that's when you most need smooth FPS to make those critical hits.
(I'm also in Finland and typically have 130-140 ms ping. I haven't found this to be a huge issue in itself. EDIT: Although I certainly don't waste Gauss ammo trying to hit laterally running lights...)

sometimes it can take a long time to find a match, especially if you are playing CW
for CW matches you could be waiting 20 minutes for a group to form then another 10 for an enemy team to respond, it depends on how many friendly/enemy players are dropping on the planet, once you have 11 other people on your team the match forms, if after 10 minutes you have not had an enemy team form you get an "auto win" "turret drop" where you win by destroying the base which is only defended by turrets, your team would have to do something extremely silly to loose
in solo or group matches it is not uncommon to be waiting 5+ minutes for a match, , it just depends on how many people of your skill level are playing and how many Mechs of your weight class are in the queue,
the match maker tries to put 3 each, Lights, Mediums, Heavies and Assaults in the match, if after (I think) 30 seconds it has not found you a match will allow 4 of one weight class, and players who are slightly further from your skill range, it keeps loosening the requirements until it finds you a match
when you hover your curser over the play now button it brings up percentages for each weight class, if you pick the weight class with the lowest percentage you will find a match much quicker (Lights are often in the 5-20% range with heavies often above 36% with Mediums and Assaults at 15-30% so a Light Mech will usualy find a match much faster than a Heavy (but look at the % when you are ready to play, Lights have been over 30% before).
in MWO the CPU matters more than the GPU, and it likes Quad core (or better) CPUs with good single core performance,
from what I have read it sounds like a fast Intel i5 quad core is the best you can get (more cores do not hurt but do not help ether), it does not like more recent AMD chips because of the way they share resources between cores, and does not benefit from an i7s hyper-threading

Updating to latest Nvidia drivers improved my FPS considerably.
