You could remove a couple of tons of ammo if you have heat issues, but I've never found it to be a problem.

I had some good success with quad wubs (325 std, 20 DHS) that I was considering pulling 4 DHS for MGs & ammo.

Love the high mounted weapons and the symmetry of the hardpoints
Mal-1r: 2 ER LL 4 Ac5s, 270 xl,
Mal-1p: 4 med lasers 4 ultra ac5s, std 270, endo
Mal-2p: 2 large lasers 4 medium lasers , 2 ultra ac5s , std 315, endo
Mx90: 2 large lasers, 6 ac2s, std 270, endo and ferro fibrous
It's a shame we are gonna lose all weapon quirks soon to "balance" oh well

Slot poor thats why I didn't go with endo on this one. The AC2s are for the screen shake and range. I like the ML for the range as well.
Though I do have a build for the 2P where I use 6 SPL to murder lights that try to run up under my guns. I believe this is the point of low arms.

I've tried several variants of 4xAC5s with lasers or LRMs backing me up... Mostly I just keep ending up cored in no time match after match. I have never really gotten the hang of using DAKKA, where I try to hold my aim on an enemy, and still turn my torso to divert damage. It seems like those two styles conflict with each other, so I end up facing the opponents, and in no time my CT just rakes in the damage like a zeppelin.
Dunno. I think the battlemaster is still calling to me. Throw a big engine in those and you're doing 80+, with super high mounted hardpoints... it's like the energy equivalent of this guy.
Still though, I wanna believe. I love the visuals and the loadout options, I just keep having 250-300 pt matches at best.
I appreciate all the builds posted!

Stick it out and grind them to elite, they really do get better.
Dakka means face time and you are in a big wide machine. I wanted to play it like the dual AC5 Treb 7K. The Treb isn't a giant target and has some speed to get out of trouble. While running up on people and standing my ground until they fall down doesn't work in the Mauler another tactic does and its running torso weapons left on left button and right on the right so you can conserve ammo and fight with 1 side. Great side peek mech with great reach potential. The Mauler gets cored so much because the CT is huge so side peeking with a STD engine is pretty safe. I can't stand the slow speed to get the big punch. It is pretty XL friendly so peeking you have to be a bit more careful. I just stay at range and move and shoot or I play like a medium and position myself on an enemy's flank while he is busy and just waste em.
Try this build with the AC/5 on right and left button and the erppc on the page down.
MAL-MX90
Smurf has the weight wrong its actually 88.5t
Some of it does have to do with the target value as well, that fortunately will wear off with the next new mech.
Its a Resistance mech so you got to expect it to be geared toward cw and well peeking is a leading tactic. Look at the laser heavy tip of the rest of the pack,

One other note about the MX90, with the 2 additional ballistics hardpoints... I noticed they're SO close to the cockpit, that even something like an AC2 or MG in those positions (if you're in a bleached out snow map and depending on heat vision) makes firing them about like throwing a blindfold on, haha. There's these HUGE muzzle flashes blasting across your screen... which is cool at first, then you die and had no idea from where, haha.
laldabaoth, I tried a 6xAC5, and in order to make it work you need a SERIOUS glass cannon, there's like 30 armor on your torsos, and you of course draw fire like battle banner... I tried it for three rounds and went down QUICK in them. Part of the problem is you're slow as ****, so your team drives off into the horizon, then 2-3 enemies come along, shoot at you three times, and you're in your cockpit screaming like there's a snake in there with you

1091 dmg 688 match 3 kills 8 assists
This build is not for peeking, I use the same tactics I do with the Kintaro 18 and Grif 2N, blind them with lrm5s while hitting them in the face, on those mechs its with a single ERLL but on this badboy its a pair of shake inducing AC/5s and a pair of brutal LPLs (Thanks again Torezu)
Edit: and lots of flanking.

Want to throw in some opinion on loading out Cannons.
Like usually the discussion here has been about how many AC20 you can run, people get way to hung up on alpha. Some quick research on the lore of the Mauler and then the stock builds show clearly this is a long range damage dealer. Gauss certainly, maybe you will get lucky and not have to brawl. AC20 just to short of a Range.
Multiple AC2/5 fit better because you still have the tonnage for enough ammo and for supporting weapons.
My MAL-1P build I posted further up is the perfect build for engaging at the ranges possible considering the maps themselves. The AC2 give you the long hit but the heavier AC5s take them down faster when they are close enough for their medium and short range weapons.
Most mechs with low slung arms you get screwed because thats where your main weapons end up, on the Mauler its not often the case, though the Arms could be a bit lower to deal with lights that want to hug you up under your guns. The 4 ML run a bit hot on this build so are for close protection against lights and for when ammo runs out.
So this build is capable of range but is not range dependent.
Ive been LOLd in the game for running under powered, sure some will want to dispute it here so I brought a vid.
When I saw I dropped in a cannon boat on Caustic I thought I was screwed, tall 90t with no LRMs, face time on caustic means over heating and rain. Got lucky no one had lrms and I got to just gunboat the hell out of them.
Yeah I totally stole that kill at the end, sorry comp weekeend the Marauder will be mine.

MAL-MX90 (AC20 x2, MG x4, MPL x2)
I apparently made this while heavily intoxicated and while having way too much fun with the STD 60/AC20 Urbanmech. Essentially the AC20s are your primary bread and butter for doing work, the 2 MPLs are back-up damage/used to shoot out to medium range and the 4 MGs are there to critseek exposed components (which won't be hard to accomplish as your AC20s/MPLs will annihilate mech armor). Given the short-range nature of my load-out, I've opted for AC20/MPL range modules to make my mid-range capability a little better though it honestly still is pretty poor- gotta get in the thick of close-quarters with this build. To note- the AC20 range upgrade stacks with the built-in +10% ballistic range quirk on this mech which results in an approx. 320ish(?) optimal range for your AC20s.

Mauler Boom armor is just the base to save time on building it
that thing can easily fit a pair of AC/20 in with enough ammo to last and even have a set of medium lasers to backup.

It's a lot like the duel AC20 builds above only it uses a pair of gauss rifles backed up by 4 MPL's. The 300 engine is plenty fast for gauss sniping and the MPL's are a great light deterrent and good for mop up once ammo is gone. I could see dropping the extra heatsinks for more ammo. Right now they are just to pad the rifles against critical hits.
