I remember when you first posted that. It gave me such an itch to run a BT RPG filled with espionage, and have the security mechs be very much like that one.
What's great is what Megamek's bots did with it. In a 3 versus 3 match, old design to the torso mounted upgrade... Gun-ho pilot Ota (of Patlabor fame) with high gunnery and poor klutzy piloting skills soon finds himself three on one against an enemy Noa Izumi (also Patlabor fame, high melee skills, high piloting skills, poor gun skills), enemy Ota and 'the other guy' (something of a middle ground with an emphasis on missile use).
During combat in this bot versus bot battle (6 individual bots each with a personality akin to the character and individual initiative), Ota manages to grab a fallen allied pilot (his own side's Noa). At first grabbing the one and freely returning fire. He defeated the enemy Noa by keeping her at range (since as a Melee Master and Specialist, she could pump out 3 punches or 2 kicks if she got close). Then he grabbed that Noa and then he refused combat (for reasons unknown) and instead made mad dashes towards forestry which began absorbing some enemy fire. Smoke missiles kept hitting him, but even when they missed and there was no excuse to not fire, he'd still refuse to attack and kept retreating (despite a berserk aggressiveness and a lack of common sense or self preservation). It wasn't until he lost one of the two passengers he was carrying that he finally started to use his gun again. At that point he went out in a blaze of glory.
The torso mounted upgrades lost a lot of effectiveness by losing a single MG in the process. With the latest redesign they have twin MGs again and many variants. Including some using Medium/Light Rifles.
On another test match with a more personal control, Noa in her torso mounted upgrade showed me that its melee capabilities are top notch in the right, if possibly overpowered, hands. Nothing like sprinting towards your target through the trees so that the potential damage is reduced, followed by closing in and a triple punch knockdown followed by a double kick finisher. Best 40 second takedown, ever.
It's a shame this mech's top speed is the same as the Dire Wolf's on faster variants.
