Hey all,
After the last patch went wrong, I decided I'd go for a uninstall and re-install. Figuring that what's on my SSD now can be put on later, that seemed a good bet.
But... after downloading and while installing, I get the message there's not enough space on my SSD. The download in itself is just 7Gb... so where does the other 21 Gb go?
Easiest solution is buy an extra HDD or SSD, but maybe there's a quick fix... I hope...

Greetings,
A lot of the files you download for the install are in a compressed .cab file format.
- During the install they need a temp area to open and expand/read the files, then actually install them.
- What's a 'normal' 7Gb install download could be a massive 20 or 40Gb distribution of files before that final clean up and deletion of the temp 'unpacked' files.
(most if not all of what's temp files will be removed after the install, then the user can safely delete the original install download. In most cases it's no longer needed or required, and may even be in a different location from the 'live' install.)
- Some issues with SSD's is they should not be 'formatted' as it will shorten there lifespan.
- If you've set aside a large 'swap file' area for programs, games, or what-ever, it's not actually registering as 'used space' but the install may or may not have access to it.
Reminder:
After a large file delete or program uninstall it's always a good idea to 'reboot' the computer.
- It clears the storage address's and re-reads the capabilities of the drive or drives.
As a note here:
I use one drive for the system, and only system related storage.
I have numerous 'other' drives for programs and games, and that's all that goes on them.
(never trust storing everything on 1 drive, with a single program capable of 'screwing up' something and corrupting the boot drive.)
Side note here:
We are right on the cusp of the next release of a new storage tech jump. Ten to 100's of time the storage capabilities on micro sized devices. Thumb drives with Tb's of storage, all thanks to the development of SSD's and advancing that tech.
