but the recent talks of set up scrims got me pondering if this lull in CW isn't a really good time to just set up some groups with our own player set guidelines to enable more variety and exciting matches.

I know the uber competitive and troll types won't be at all interested, which is just fine - any of the rest of us can set up an environment that's more engaging despite PGI's total lack of development on that end.

Just some thoughts we can play around with for setting up matches -

Lances split and try to "capture" points on the maps that we can choose arbitrarily as some point/structure along the channeled paths. Let each lance battle it out with their first drop, then attempt to hold it against the other teams second with any who fell able to reinforce.

We should be able to track points on that and keep it mostly casual and fun pretty easily, and post up some records to share the glory.

Different drop limits - say 200 tons. This would encourage far more variety of mechs on the field. If you wanted to field heavy, then you either leave you over the limit mechs at the attack spawn or shut down in the defend spawn to not supply your team with free radar.

Ecm, lrm, whatever uber quirked build of the month on limits across the team. Again to support mech variety.

Honor agreement to not utilize deathballs or light rushes in these matches. In an effort to provide the most enjoyment and exciting matches possible.

Could also just agree that gate opening is a "free" action and not fire on each other from either side. Let the defenders set up their lance defenses and the attackers prepare an approach.

Other ideas could be just to have 1v1 or lance based face-offs starting them on either side of the gates, or total weight class/model v each other restrictions.

If any groups/players are interested in engaging in some honorably competetive matches and making it more interesting while earning those rewards before the system changes on us, pop in and see what sort of agreements we can come to.

Obviously 12 man groups are easier, but we should be able to organize smaller groups and pugs up with the chats and TS servers as well.
