You mean like this? ;)

Yes, that's actually in editing mode. The CT is selected waaay over there on the left. All you have to do is drag and drag and drag and drag and drop!

At this point, I'm beyond disappointment. I just feel bad for the guys at PGI, because they're trying. They're trying and they really don't have any idea what's going wrong. From the looks of it, they've got some programmers working on the UI, people who don't really understand a lot about GUI or aesthetics, and they're probably doing the best they can, but they're just working outside their area of expertise .

So yeah, I feel sorry for them. Because this is terrible and I don't think they even see their shortcomings when they release these big UI updates. I imagine they're pretty surprised by all the negativity.
"So you're saying all these random colours somehow create a bad visual experience? But you wanted colour coding to make things easier. So why not just use lots of green, blue, red, yellow, purple and orange? That makes it look good, right?"

Remember that the current version is aimed at functionality rather than visual appeal. So I think layout is more important atm rather than aesthetics.

I think it has serious issues in terms of functionality, but I don't want to make too damning criticism before having actually tried it personally. And I also have serious doubts that they will improve the visual appeal in time, but I would love to be wrong about that.

Functionally it is much improved, but there are a couple of odd quirks about it that I'll have to get used to. For example, there's no "back" button anymore to take you back to Mech selection in the Mech lab. Instead there's a "select Mech" button.

Also, you no longer have to drag-and-drop engines into place. The Mech always has an engine* and you modify it's size with up and down arrows while it's mounted. This is a HUGE improvement over drag-and-drop because it allows you to quickly and efficiently tweak the engine as you're working on a design. You can still drag-and-drop if you want to, but why would you? The new interface is much better.

*you can set the engine size to 0 in order to remove it if you want to, or just yank it out via drag-and-drop as before.

When you switch Mechs using the "select Mech" button, the UI "saves" something even if you haven't changed anything. It's disconcerting, but it won't actually save changes you've made to the loadout on the sly. If you've actually made changes you get the standard prompt - "you've made changes and if you proceed you're going to lose them, want to continue?"

Problem is the layout is as bad as the rest of it.

Half the info tucked up against the left side, half against the right, and you need to click first at the left side, then the right, and then you need to check lower right corner, click upper right, then lower left, and ...

It just sucks. It's bad. It's as bad as the old one, and that was almost a point-by-point of what NOT to do when designing a GUI. They could use that one, and more than likely this one as well, when teaching GUI design. "Don't do any of this, and you're halfway there."

Opinions are like

Check and check so here is mine, Im not thrilled about it but it does have some good features. I don't like the skills menu, I don't want it for the mechlab tab, I hate that menu though I understand it in Skills where every mech is listed, but mechlab?
Its a big gray blob covering most of the screen,

This is a feature.

Remember when people were complaining about scaling since Day 1, and someone from PGI posted a picture of the UI on a 4K monitor?

Good times.

If a player likes the new UI depends on if he or she likes riddles and puzzles.

Like a good mystery movie? Then this UI is for you.

Mechwarrior Online has a new game mode, "Hide and go seek"

Players will find themselves thinking "what? where? how?" alot.

Im kidding of course but it needs work.

I like riddles and puzzles... just not in a UI.

Why on earth would anyone put up something to test with so MANY known issues?
I mean i could understand testing something that you think is well finished and letting people test for things you have missed or imput, but to put it up with so many, many issues just boggles my mind.

Found that post!

I think Niko or Garth was the actual originator of that post... but that's not the point.

if it doesn't have resolution scaling it doesn't have functionality either

I'm afraid that after all the time I've taken to get used to the current setup, the new one is just going to be another cluttered mess with different functionality.

I think they made a good call in letting us choose between two different layouts. One is based on smurfy, it's all business and very effective. The other one is more about looking pretty and being an easy start for new players.

Unfortunately, I don't think the non-smurfy layout is as intuitive as it could be. I really think the best choice for new players would be the ability to select a component by clicking it, like in UI 1.0. You hover your cursor over a component and it's highlighted. You click it and and the content of that component is displayed. You click the right arm to swap weapons in the right arm. You click the CT to change the engine. And have a separate window for upgrades.

I guess I'll put that in my feedback thread.

Spoiler

On high res screens (like my 1920 x 1200, which honestly isn't that high res) there's a ton of wasted space and the text/buttons are pretty tiny and difficult to use.

I.e. the UI doesn't scale.

Seriously? That's really irritating.

this also i hope they give the ability to swap equipment between mechs without opening each mech separately
yea... but I do not really like the idea how you willy nilly change weapons and equipment in MW: O compared to say lore which typically costs millions and months to do... kinda feels weird having them go all over the place wily nilly... also a quick system like this kinda ruins the point of having multiple engines of the same one excluding CW.
