First of all, thank you PGI for striving to improve the user experience of a particular item that you've already spent a lot of time on.
I'm going to keep this to a simple pros and cons set of lists, with a few closing words at the end. So let's start with the positive, shall we?
+ It is much, much faster to navigate and that is glorious
+ There is a greater amount of information available
That seems like a small list, but those are two extremely major items and I want to stress how massive the improvement is with those benefits.
There are several drawbacks, though, and they are all somewhat minor but numerous. Here's a screenshot of what it looks like on my computer for reference:
See that? Good. Here are the explicit and implicit gripes:
- Everything is tiny. I have a 2560 by 1440 screen resolution, and this stuff needs to be bigger so I don't have to squint at it or put my face 6 inches away from the screen.
- Selecting and buying 'Mechs is painful. Bring back the palette we had and just launch into this new lab when we hit the "Configure" button. Trying to sort myself through the list of the "Select 'Mech" menu is obtuse.
- Show item info on hover instead of click. Just a quality of life thing.
- Allow dropping items into the section rather than the specific crit-slot; we can't choose where our weapons go specifically, so having to drop onto the critslot is an obscene amount of precision. It's especially painful when the system automatically scrolls through the 'Mech sections and I'm trying to put items into lower slots like, say, the ones for engine internal sinks.
And that's pretty much it. I love, love, love the speed and being able to drag and drop, but some of the changes are a step back. I like to see my whole catalogue of 'Mechs on a grid and I like buying them from that menu. I absolutely hate the "Select 'Mechs" menu and buying from the Store.
