Sometimes, when the stars align above Puglandia, you can get some thrilling matches. Two of my favourite matches ever have been on Alpine, which is one of my least favourite maps. But because people hate the map so much, they're sometimes willing to just try something different for the sake of it. This can lead to some great matches, often taking place in parts of the map where people rarely go.

I'm going to share a story from ten minutes ago. Feel free to share a story yourself.

This is one of the things that keeps me playing. Beautifully executed matches (win or lose) where it ends in a great furball with many smoking mechs.

I once brought my team (for once, i am going to take credit: the plan was mine and the PUGs followed me, albeit grudgingly) from the spawns on the east all the way around to F7. The enemy team, after taking the hill, regrouped and charged us.
We took defensive positions on the F7 ridges, while the enemy positioned themselves at G7.
After some trading, the enemy moved east, towards G8, and i led a flank on their left side, which ended in a majestic brawl near the structures at the corner of G7. End score was something like 12-8, but i was missing half my mech, as well as most of my team.

It was awesome.

Alpine is a great map, as long as you keep away from Hell Hill.

That was actually a lot closer and more tense than the final numbers indicate. At least on my side of the map, it was me and 2 largely neutered Assault mechs at the end. Opfor was LRm crazy and well enough placed we really weren't effectively able to just push in.

Me and a Warhawk went off the reservation and started flanking and harassing. Drew a CN9-AH to me. He learned who the big ac20 dog in MWO is (hint..Hunchy! :P ) and finished him with moderate damage. Was able to lay some more hurt on them, and we were trading off, 1 kill for 1 kill. They push in, and I open up another Centy, teammates kill him. Then comes the bullrush. I kill the Blackjack first...and the enemy Warhawk overheats. I feed him ac20s till he stops twitching. Their raven charges me. And goes splat, followed by their Atlas. About now, their mostly intact Direwolf crests theta, like a bull that's scented blood. I scoot around the corner, and barely make it, cored out pretty much everywhere. My 2 teammates are trying to tie him up (Sadly, the Stalker who was already cored and legged, fell at this point), but they might be in even worse shape than me. I swing back around and slam my last 3 ac20 rounds into the DWF, taking off his right torso and cratering his CT. He charges me again, and all I can do is slam my throttle to its stops, in full reverse, firing off my lasers as fast as they can cycle, twisting and twitching like I'm having a seizure in between....1 volley...2 volley... and finally, on the 3rd, down the beast drops at my feet, game over.

I tell you, that is the type of close match the MM should be trying to give us. Easily the best fight all weekend for me, and I've actually had a number of noteworthy matches.

Kudos to the OpFor and my Team. No one should feel shame....it was a great match!

This is just the most recent memorable one.

of recently played i saw a pretty funny moment in a game yesterday
so, i was killed and spectated the game, we had two ravens on the team, one of them was legged in fight, second one, a pretty good sniper, accidentally misstep on a slope (it was the alpine map too) and since his legs were damaged lost one leg as well. it was nearly the end of game, some enemy survived somewhere but had no chance to recap, so, the end of game it was a procession of an assault and two legged ravens walking in single file to capture the last point... it looked hilarious

To me, this is one of the biggest reasons I wish there was a separate queue for players with, say, more than 2000 matches. Veterans tend to be a bit more open to fun ideas if you pitch it as "Let's try something different than the norm." That's my experience, anyway.

Myself and one of my unit mates. Last two beat to heck Commandos on Tourmaline. We engaged 4 opfor mechs including a jager and stalker, and won through cap (4 other opfor mechs were marching to our cap). It was great, we were beat to tar, and everyone was telling us to just give up because two 'mandos weren't viable.

That's pretty common. All you have to do is show initiative and use the comm tools and you can get people to do all sorts of tactics. It's not that tough. It doesn't work all the time, but a lot more than "waiting for stars to align".
