So, the recent drop in IS tonnage got a lot of people up in arms... (every announcement does) But, I really enjoyed the way it was presented, as a logical outcome of the universe at play... Strained supply lines = less available war material.
And, that got me thinking... It would be really fun if this was taken a bit further, and applied to 90% of in game changes...
For example, the CTF-0X:
'In a rare moment of lucidity, Chancellor Romano Liao of the Capellan Confederation recognized the threat of the clan invasion, and offered to share the blueprints for their experimental Cataphract. The chancellor stopped short of providing any ACTUAL mechs, citing that 'the Davion Dogs would stockpile any mechs, bleeding the Confederation of it's valuable machines, only to then use them against her.' Production on these new models has commenced, and are scheduled to be deployed May 19, 3050'
The same thing could be applied to weapon tweaks and such...
'a rogue commet destroyed the production facility on XXXX, this plant manufactured components for the Large Laser, popular throughout the Sphere. The weapons will continue to be produced, however the plant compensating for the lost production is equipped with outdated machinery, resulting in a 5% increase in the heat generated'
Needless fluff? Absolutely... But it would be fun, and immersive. It might actually lesson rage against game changes if there is a reasoned explanation behind it, even if it is a fictional explanation to a fictional weapon in a fictional universe... Humans are weird...
