Recently bought them. I like them. At 50 tons, they sized them fairly small, making them seem less of a threat, as compared to the Trebuchet for example. So often if an opponent is picking between 2 threats, they often pick the other mech.
The thing I was curious about on the 5P was the location placement of the energy slot.
The 5R and 5D gives 2 side torso points, one high and one low. For some reason, they designed the P to have the single energy slot placed low, making all the weapons at waist level.
It would have been better design to make that single energy point a high torso one rather than a low torso one.
I would love to see them rethink that location.

The lower placement is where the original (and proper lore) weapon is located. The upper placement was a PGI add on for the additional hard point they gave it. This is why the lower one almost always (as far as I know) fills up first. Also why the 5P's single energy side torso location is the lower point.

Take note of the location in this picture (which shows it best): http://www.sarna.net...File:ENF-5D.png
When you consider things in this game, you have to consider it's background. This game is based on a very lore rich universe. Lots if little information pieces that gets tossed in there. It's also related to a table top board game, where exact weapon locations (high up arms, or low slung arms) don't make any difference in their ability to deal damage. (In lore, they would just lift their arm up like a person to shoot over obstructions. Here we don't have that functionality.)

Hi - I was exactly like you at first. "Why didn't they put that one up on the shoulder?" However, what I've been running pretty successfully recently is the stock UAC5, an AC2 in the other arm and an LPL in the energy slot. I've found that this is a mech that you can brawl pretty well with - the LPL strips the armour, while the ACs bust components. The fact that all three weapons are at the same height, seems to work well in this role, maybe because convergence is quicker? Anyway, used in this role I haven't found the position of the hardpoint an issue. Give it a go and see what you think. Cheers.
