After seeing Mad Max: Fury Road, I was reminded, oddly, of Robot Jox, and then of Robot Wars, and I got to thinking.

Wouldn't it be kinda nice to see some maps based on locations in iconic films? Not a direct representation, I understand how copyright works. Just inspired.

For one suggestion, how about a salt flat? Work in a good "mirage" physics, make the whole thing hazy with heat, and when 'Mechs run across it, clouds of dust kick up. Perhaps have wrecks of starships and dead Mackies strewn about for cover.

Next... I saw that sandstorm in Fury Road, and my very first thought was this: That would make and AWESOME MWO battlefield. The covering "dust devils" with the instant death should you get pushed into them, the impossible to gauge distances... How epic would that be?

Neo-Tokyo from Akira would make for an awesome city map. Especially with some cyber-punks running down the highways on their over-powered motorcycles. They show tracer fire on River City, so why not some cyber-punks?

Seeing some locales that are obviously inspired by such mega movie locations would be like a dream come true. As a long time RPG-er and TT player, these were often handy backdrops to quickly create a 'verse as it is.

And I think its HIGH time we saw a Castle and City map, fully scaled for 'Mech combat, of course.

If you guys are looking for inspiration for your next big map, I suggest you look no further than some classic Sci-Fi. The city from the original Dune, in the crater... I don't know about anybody else, but I'd like to take a rotation there. The city from Blade Runner... Inspiration is out there.

would be great

i get the idea of maps having their own life from your post, with mechs being mere observers
