No one cares about watching their arcs, or their fields of fire. That allows lone mechs to sneak in...
Oh lawd, this.
Apparently, CW if you aren't running a 12 man is all about standing shoulder to shoulder trying to get lines, or having people blatantly move in front of you to take your own fire position, just so they can throw out a few MLAS and get some hits in.
Fire position one-upmanship.
It's the PUG mindset; an almost irresistible compulsion to fill every possible second of game time with attacking the enemy.
You see it in every match, where hyper aggressive players will be charging to the front, playing as though they are the star of a MechWarrior movie about them. They complain bitterly if people block them, even though they moved in front of a player with a decent fire position and immediately reversed into their face. It doesn't matter that you're in a great position to punish a peeking enemy, you're standing where THEY should be standing, so YOU need to move, thankyouverymuch. They whine spectacularly at people they see as not contributing, even if those players are waiting for a moment that fits their mech and playstyle.
The trouble is, even patient players who KNOW the shortfalls of such a playstyle are forced to buy into it, because follow the leader is pretty much the
only viable tactic in a non-communicative PUG - in both CW and the pub queues. It doesn't matter that the leader is a likely a deranged lunatic you're only following out of a sense of sheer, morbid curiosity, because if you don't support them, they die easily, or the team gets split, or you get left behind, and the game is over. ALL HAIL ZERG.
The PUG mindset sometimes works for PUGS, but it's
horrible for CW, and it happens all the time. Even if someone steps up and takes command, all the nice plans fly out the window as soon as the first red triangle appears.

Any half competent enemy that plays for the objective in CW will almost always beat an enemy playing the pug peek-and-wait-for-weakness game.
Whoops. Topic detailed with whiny rant.
OP, I love your idea. Making the generators an attractive target for the average all-about-me PUG lord might steer them away from their cover based comfort zone, towards tactics that win in CW.
