Hope you have a great experience in MWO.
Your optimism is commendable,... however, most of us were like that at the start. you did not get hit with lots of things... facepalm decisions, convoluted mechanics, dev comments about not being able to modify the game code written by somebody else... ah well... lets forget it.

And there's no need to revisit that on new players.

As if those negative stuff just appeared out of the blue for no reason.

I'm sure OP will get to those sooner or later... just give it time.

Hmm, off the top of my head here so forgive any inaccuracy..
there is a social tab on the bottom right. It opens up a panel and I think at the top right of that panel is an "add friend" button.
I will check later when I can get online but I think that's how it's done

I'm glad you are enjoying it. I think it is great how they have stuck to the basics of mechwarrior, the idea of different components and armor panels having different values, weight classes, variety of weapons and chassis and the clan vs inner sphere time period. All great.
However, do not expect fast progression, immersion / simulation promises to be kept, bug squashing, additional features and fluff (planetary information unavailable) to come at any sort of acceptable pace. They are a very slow developer and often take the easy way out. If you let all that slide its a great game at its core.

You should all be thankful that I produced something with the name System Shock 3.

But in all seriousness, though, if you still see it as fun despite its many, many flaws - keep playing. It's you who decides whether or not to keep playing.
There's also MechWarrior: Living Legends (ban incoming, oh crap), but that's a different thing altogether (no Mechlab, more emphasis on combined arms and role warfare). If you're looking for more 'simulator' gameplay, head there. In the end, though, it is always your decision.

You do realize that's an unfair analogy, right? PGI is flawed, the game is flawed, but it's not to that point. Call me a white knight if you so wish, but I'm just trying to be fair.
