Hi al, I am new to MWO but have played all the othe battletech and mechwarrior game except mw4 and just wanted to show my appreciation of this game and the fact that it is constantly trying to improve and evolve. It seems a lot of people complain about this and that such as quirks and nerfing which is their right but we need to be thankful that this game exists i(f you are a battletech fan). Its not like the developers are trying to ruin the game and it is a balance thing on a very complicated game.
This is the first online game i have ever really played as i mostly play solo campaign games and am having a blast. I Just wanted to share some love and interested in others thoughts.

Welcome Sir.

Hope you have a great experience in MWO.

Your optimism is commendable,... however, most of us were like that at the start. you did not get hit with lots of things... facepalm decisions, convoluted mechanics, dev comments about not being able to modify the game code written by somebody else... ah well... lets forget it.

GL & HF

Welcome to the game! And nice to have people with a positive attitude. Now you just have to ignore all of the negative stuff on the forums and the bad information :)

And there's no need to revisit that on new players. ;)

As if those negative stuff just appeared out of the blue for no reason. you know that the OP is having a first hand experience with the game right? ... let him experience some "things".
I'm sure OP will get to those sooner or later... just give it time.

Yes some people are so preoccupied with trying to be negative they forget anybody else could possibly be having a good time

and so determine to spread their cancerous attitudes around

try to avoid that stuff!

Hmm, off the top of my head here so forgive any inaccuracy..

there is a social tab on the bottom right. It opens up a panel and I think at the top right of that panel is an "add friend" button.

I will check later when I can get online but I think that's how it's done

I'm glad you are enjoying it. I think it is great how they have stuck to the basics of mechwarrior, the idea of different components and armor panels having different values, weight classes, variety of weapons and chassis and the clan vs inner sphere time period. All great.

However, do not expect fast progression, immersion / simulation promises to be kept, bug squashing, additional features and fluff (planetary information unavailable) to come at any sort of acceptable pace. They are a very slow developer and often take the easy way out. If you let all that slide its a great game at its core.

Keep up your enthusiasm, don't the the forums or the Developers get to you.

I negotiated the rights to the System Shock IP, and after raising $5 million in Founders' money I sent people my shavings of dandruff and called it System Shock 3.

You should all be thankful that I produced something with the name System Shock 3.

It's bound to be a tough ride OP, but honestly a lot of us are still playing because it's still good fun, even if it's very much flawed. See you in the pug queue, don't let the negativity get to you - you must develop that bitterness yourself :P

But in all seriousness, though, if you still see it as fun despite its many, many flaws - keep playing. It's you who decides whether or not to keep playing.

There's also MechWarrior: Living Legends (ban incoming, oh crap), but that's a different thing altogether (no Mechlab, more emphasis on combined arms and role warfare). If you're looking for more 'simulator' gameplay, head there. In the end, though, it is always your decision.

You do realize that's an unfair analogy, right? PGI is flawed, the game is flawed, but it's not to that point. Call me a white knight if you so wish, but I'm just trying to be fair.
