Control Variations. Hojam? Hotam?

I have played mech games with mouse and keyboard for a very long time now. Since then I have acquired a few joysticks and throttles which I use mostly for other games.

Has anyone tried either of these setups? If so, can you share a bit on how it works and if you prefer it now to M+KB playing?

This is what I thought of so far. Still need to test everything.
Hands-on-joystick-and-mouse setup
Left Hand - T16000M
X Axis - Turning
Y Axis - Forward reverse movement
Z Axis - Throttle ?
Btn 1 - Alpha Strike
Btn 2 - Jump Jets
Btn 3 - Full Stop
Btn 4 - Target
Btn 7 - Map
Hat - Consumables? Coolshot, UAV, Strikes

Right Hand - Mouse
Twist and arms

Hands-on-throttle-and-mouse
Left Hand - CH Products Pro Throttle
Z Axis - Throttle
Mini stick - Turning
Button 2 - Jump jets
Button 3 - Target
Button 4 - Full Stop
Hat 3 Down - Map
Hat 3 Up - View Names
Hat 2 - Consumables? Coolshot, UAV, Strikes


Right Hand - Mouse
Twist and Arms

try setting the y axis on the stick to analog throttle, see if it works. i use a t16000 for right hand and a hotas on the left for movement.
