Now many of us have been in games or saw on youtube videos of matches in other games with uncensored VOIP channels and they can be a miasma of profanity and inappropriate behavior and NC17 activity. This will drive many to most to stop using VOIP and revert to private teamspeak *IF* they can mute the VOIP. I know many, including myself have wished to block the chat comments when it becomes a 'trail of troll fail'.

To tie it all together, the thought occurred that with the ability for units to "opt out" of the public uncontrolled queue and chats, we are going to lose the influence of a lot of units that provide a family friendly and safe environment for MWO. What responsible parent is going to let their 14 year old son or daughter to play in an environment where cursing and bad behavior is the norm?

Now I come to this from a family friendly unit, the Seraphim, and many of these concerns come from those who have kids and have mentioned some of these issues to me. They'd never go into certain other units because their children are in the room and the last thing they need is their toddlers hearing a phrase then singing the "F Bomb" all week long like it's a new toy to play with that gets the most interesting reaction from those they meet and mom and dad.

What this means from my view, and this is for consideration by yourselves, your units and PGI, is that if we do not have a public area that is safe for all players because of it's content, and the advent of private matches where even text can be controlled (and trust me I've seen some very foul fingers in text) they will retreat to areas where it is safe, abandoning the public channels and queues to the worst social elements in gaming, creating cantons of social/behavioral safety.

Call of Duty wants to have a word with you - that game is famous for its foul-mouthed British schoolchildren, and it does a considerable traffic in online matches. Plus, it's not possible to edit live VoIP to remove profanity.

Having a text filter like most other multiplayer games is an excellent idea, however.

Disable All-Chat/Team Chat. Done. Disable VOIP while your at it too. Posts like these are why I will never have respect for Seraphim, only Seraphim Rising Storm.

However I guess I can agree, a chat filter should be a thing. So +1 on that.

Strangely, I have not noticed much of this on neither chat nor voip. Every once and awhile a few words or comments might fly when people does the stupidest moves, however they are usually not said to hurt someone. In fact, my impression is that most people does not say much at all on the voip. That most people can manage. I don’t live in a chlorine white world, and I could not care less. I don’t try being as offended as I possibly can all the time.

Actually, I’ve not seen much of it on any PC game I’ve played besides the “get cancer and die” comments on CoD from time to time. I’ve heard lots of people complaining about this on the consoles though, I’ve got a couple of XboXes, but I don’t play enough online on them to say if people are just over offended by nothing.

Anyways, behave people.
Looking forward to killing you soon.

If u are, as an adult, unable to cope with certain groupings of letters of the alphabet and they hurt u that deeply then u should isolate urself and your family from the outside world. You do not have the constitutional right to not be offended by words. Maybe some of us are offended by goody-two shoe, religious people and family types, it works both ways. Threads like these pop up every 6 months or so and are always pointless. Let it go.

Why would I let it go?? Honestly im disappointed in PGI for not having a filter. They arent doing as well as some server hosters which are kids for goodness sake. But I do give them props for disabling chat. Only downside to it is we cant see people doing calls on enemy locations and such

While a chat filter might sound like a nice thing at first, it can easily be circumvented and then its implementation was wasted development time.

If you come across someone who is heavy on swearing, insults and other foul language simply report the player to support. I know with absolute certainty, from my time as a mod here, that there have been bans for such behavior in the game.
