I always assumed that many of the original companies were probably dead, and the names were just resurrected. (this happens quite a bit in industry, with companys either picking up a famous name, or a conglomerate renaming themselves to a famous name from a much earlier acquisition.)...

I much prefer my version of events, where somewhere in the universe is a BattleMech powered by a Ford Engine. *shudder*

That is scary; but even worse than that the Raksasha is 100% built (redressed more like) by GM. *Thunderclap* *wails in horror*

Yo dude, we need to start a petition to make sure you get some sort of limited edition mech, weapon, paint job, logo, ect.. Something for the work you put it, just to help out the game, community, and Devs. It's one thing to troll the forums as a dev looking for ideas that people generally agree on. This tho is a pretty stone solid guiding light for the devs for anytime they run into a what does our gamers want from us question. Great job hope to be blown up by you and your limited to only one in the game stone rhino. ;)

This was aweomse, im glad i could help by participating.
I am rather disapointed in the number of people who wanted to include The Clans, being a Clanner myself. But great stuff thanks for setting this all up.

Joe McWarrior is a pretty awesome guy, maybe he could be the unoffical logo, like VaultBoy from Fallout

Great detailed analyses. I'm glad someone did this, I have to say I agree with pretty much all that was said.

Also, I heard someone on my shuttle bus between campuses last night talking about MechWarrior Online. If you're in this thread, hello! Nice haircut!

So, we're up about 60 more survey takers. I had the other thread on this forum locked because people kept responding to it, and rather viciously, and I'd rather their vicious comments be put to good use bumping this thread ^_^

The statistics haven't changed much in the meantime. It's now becoming very clear that only 50% of the community has a joystick hooked up--the number keeps wavering between the majority in the minority, and right now it's like 50.1% and 49.9%.

How people want zellbrigen handled is becoming a bit more stable--it was so close before that it was hard to figure out, but now it seems that given the choice between the players voting on zellbrigen violations and the game automatically detecting, people would prefer the game to detect things. Both are popular though, and I still advocate a sort of mix where the game detects but the players approve. People who want no zellbrigen at all are still in the minority.

Due to a lot of recent bumping in the other thread, the number of this forum's users who responded has jumped up. MechWarrior: Living Legends has enough respondents that I feel bad I didn't think of linking to their forum earlier.

* * * *

In any case, I'm hearing a lot of messages like "you should get rewarded for doing this with a 'Mech or skin or a hat or something!".

I don't really think that's necessary. While it does tickle me to see so much enthusiasm, and I did joke about getting a "Captain Morgan Kell's Spiced Rum" decal, that's not really why I did all this. I just love MechWarrior, and will be perfectly happy if my reward for my effort is just helping to improve the final product.

...unless the developers are looking for a new writing-staff member, or at least a QA/beta tester. Then, I have an idea for how you can reward me!

But really, whenever I see game developers start handing out exclusives, all that happens is that friction is generated within the community between the haves and the have-nots. And when there isn't jealousy over the cool exclusive thing, there's way too much respect and deference given to someone who might well be an undeserving pompous bully. Which of course only creates more friction.

And it also sets a bad precedent. If I got something cool, then other people would want stuff for things they've done. Instead of having this lovely forum filled with people who create polls and engage in discussions because they want to improve the game, we'd have a forum filled with people who create polls and engage in discussions because they want to prove how awesome they are to the devs. Something about that I find unsettling.

I'd rather the forums be a place where the merit of your words is judged by your words, not by whether or not you received a cool doodad at some time in the past. Heck, I'm already slightly miffed that our accounts have two forms of rating systems and a 'number of posts' counter and a member-title (advanced member and whatnot)--which means that someone can look at something you've said, and taint their judgement of it based on what other people think of you and how long you've been on the forum, rather than the merit of those specific words.

Nah, if I'm to receive a special pat on the head for this whole analysis, I'd rather it come in the form of further opportunities to help PGI out with the creation of this game.

*steps off soap-box*

They should give you the privilege of deciding which mech will be annouced in the next annoucement. Privately, of course. ^_^

Hmm, most of what is coming out of the survey is pretty much what everyone expected. There was a few surprises, like about the Clans and stuff, but mostly completely expected.

Was it really so expected? I was surprised by it, I didn't think there were that many simulation fans amongst us.

Well, how much you spend on the computer really depends on what you already have.

I quoted a $400 box minus peripherals, but monitors cost ~$200 and speaker setups can cost around $50; a good gaming mouse can cost $50, a joystick $25...

But if you have those extra things, and just want the box with all the video cards and CPUs and RAMs and whatnot, it's just around $400.

Here's hoping for a decent tax return and nothing else needed at the time then. I have decent peripherals ( I like my trackball, mouse kept hitting things) just need to upgrade the core unit (box) and get new speakers (those are almost a decade old, thinking about it they have held up nicely for a 20 dollar set). 400 is still a fair sized chunk of change.
