Hi
I have been having problems on an intermittent basis, the screen usual goes darker for a brief period sometimes completely black, then returns to almost the same as it was but usually a little darker. To be honest I cannot remember when it started it has been going on for a while now, but it does seem to be getting more severe screen going completely black.
I have 2xNvidia GTX570 running sli, I do not think that sli is the problem though because it also does it when i have sli disabled. Running the 64bit version of the game.

Yeah I get that, it blacks out then fades back in. Also Nvidia.
Figure it is a video card driver crash and reset, probably only partially within PGI's control.

Updating drivers is likely to help.

This is CryEngine eye adaptation. No, drivers have nothing to do with it. It simulates what the human eye does with bright flashes of light. You used to be able to tune it or turn it off via user.cfg, but now it is forced on all the time. It usually triggers when you fire weapons while zoomed in, but it can go off randomly in certain spots on certain maps. Both times it should be considered a bug.

That has to be one of the dumbest features of any game-engine ever.
Why would you need to program something like that when my eyes ALREADY DO THAT ON THEIR OWN.
Right up there with motion-blur.
Just ... face-palm-ish.

There has to be something randomly triggered (PGI's code ontop of existing stuff is... infamous) that causes it to happen.
Unfortunately, PGI kinda knows about it, but doesn't ultimately have any clue what causes it, so it's hard to nail down since it's somewhat random.

This has been a trend for many years now. Eye adaptation, depth of field, chromatic aberration, camera blur and lens effects. All those things have no place in a good visual engine with pure 3D to screen rendering, but they are artsy, and they add checkboxes to GPU marketing fliers. And they are cheap to implement, so everyone does it.
