It just dawned on me that MW2:Mercs was one of the first 3 games I ever played online. (Quake1, Diablo1, MW2:Mercs).

You even had to do some funky dos stuff to play it online...

pppconnect
then connect with your modem, then exit out of that program a certain way to keep your inet connection
then you get in the game and have to lead things 2-3mechs ahead because there was no client-side prediction or anything, and everyone had 300-500+ pings...

The good ol' days :)

MW2 was one of my favourite games. I never picked up MW3 or MW4 because it wasn't Activision..which was an amazing company at the time. I didnt like where Microsoft was taking it. Though I dont really remember what the reason was exactly. MW2 Mercs, I still have that big honking box somewhere! I'm playing the MW4 Mercs Mektek freeware until i get a beta key.

Ok here is a thought...In the intro trailer there is a Commando, an Atlas, a Zeus, and a Catapult...Three of the four are already announced to be in-game...Add a dropship...replace the Zeus with a Stalker...Use the Frozen City map...remake this updated iconic intro for all to enjoy!!!

Definitely loved MW2: Mercenaries the best, but I still have all my disks for everything from MW2 to MW4 plus both MC games. MW1 was also a really great game back in it's day.

thanks for the trip down memory lane guys. MW2: mercs is by far the best, still one of my fav games of all time and best intro trailer, thanks for tracking it down, pure gold. Still remember back in the day having to drag my computer to my ISP to download the first patch for the game as it was a massive 18MB which in australia 15 years ago on dial up was huge.

anyway off to decide on which faction to choose, or to be a lone wolf, decisions.....decisions...

It was the first Mech game I ever played, and sadly the last. I ended up getting sucked down the Quake1, QuakeWorld|TeamFortress, CS route... however, I have some very fond memories. I remember I was in some big clas, Jade Falcon I believe, and we all were fighting these other people... I knew all the mechs, the clans... all that. Some great memories right there.

Anyways, fast forward a bit and I just plunged down for the Legendary package... really looking forward to piloting a mech again for the first time in all these years.

Can't wait... any good way to buy some time while waiting to be able to play?

Correction, In MW2:Mercs You where an IS merc, eventually from late mid game you where going to fight the clans, after being captured by Clan Wolf in a periphery raid. Mechwarrior 2:31st century combat was the one revolving around Clan Wolf and Jade Falcon. I played 2 mercs before the original 2, and after the first, and did have no idea of what "clans" where, your targeting computers saying "Unknown mech" brrrrr...First encounters where just amazing! And Clan tech was basically unavailable in game, you could scrap a couple of lasers from salvages and on the black market eventually a fire moth appeared for 20 million c-bills, but it was mainly level 1 tech and the odd losttech er ppc vs first line omnimechs. No values adjusted like in mw4 either to make it nicer... Ah, good memories!

Dude a new one came out and it is better than the last and due to some legal issues it was given away to the general public for free. It's a really good game and is worth playing just as much as this one (in my opinion) so here you can download it at this website.

If that doesn't work use:

I am not telling you to buy it but i recommend it to everyone who loves Mechwarrior.

I loved how you could put nearly 200 tons of weapons on a 100 tom atlas. i once put 4 x arrow missile systems on an atlas it was hilarious see a mech 1 km away and fire 2 vollys of the four missiles track them by pressing F11 or something and watch the mech be shredded. I cold put on 12 erppcs and about 40 double heat sinks. fire all at once and be back at 0degrees by the time they recharge. lol so many glitches.
