No, this is not a Clan Weapons are OP thread.

Since we got this out of the way, I can continue with the actual point.

I don't know how many of you are experiencing this, but I have had this problem with my past 3 computers.
Specs:
Spoiler

The Clan weapons shoot incredibly fast and if you pack 4 of them, it gets worse. Today I faced a 4x CUAC10 Direwolf. These fast shooting weapons produce a GIANT amount of explosions on your screen and we all know how well particles are handled in MWO.

Even with particles turned down to the lowest setting on an absolute top of the line PC, the game gets so laggy, I can't even react to the incoming fire.

And before you can even do anything, you're dead. Not to mention CW, where the baseline FPS are 30% lower anyways, even worse in lategame.

So if you want this to be a "Thinking mans shooter", make it a good shooter by fixing the core shooter-gameplay.

It does not lag. It get a stable performance in high resolutions and with everything maxed except particles. It goes down to 5 FPS and basically locks down on me whenever I get under heavy fire, mainly from clan weapons since they fire so much.

In the old days it was the AC2-Spam, then the UAC-Spam and now the Clan-AC-Spam. It has occured on 3 different PCs. Its almost as bad as the heat steam completely destroying my FPS, but I eliminated that by tuning down particles to the lowest setting.

I thought you were implying my game lags in general. Which it does not. Aside from the usual crashes, it performs quite well. The mention of the 5 fps were in a completely different context, if you read my post.

Does your game not lock up when you get punched in the face by rapid-fire ACs?

I had a similar problem. It got fixed when I changed from 4k to 1080.

The smoke effect from impacts for LRM/AC have always been annoyingly blinding and overdone.

I'd say start there.

Yea, never really have a problem and I play on a ****** old laptop. The biggest performance hit I was having was other applications running like firefox eating up all my ram and then getting the crappy bogged low FPS issues you describe.

Then again my game runs at 15 FPS to begin with. LOL.

Yeah... Known issue. If you turn off v-sync, it happens less often but still happens. Serious offenders are: smoke particles when backing up, sparks from ballistics/ppc/missile strikes and older maps that require the use of heat vision or all of the above while fully zoomed in. Turning the particles down to at least medium helps I hear. Turning them all the way off is supposed to stop the problem (rumor mill).

From what I have read PGI has an engineer looking into this issue. I think I heard one of the devs mention that they are looking into the in game HUD as a source of the problem. I wish I could direct you to these conversations or had some sources to show you. I just can't find them right now.

They are aware of the issue and it is on the long list of things to do

Drops maybe 5FPS? I haven't watched that for a few patches. I'll check it out next time I'm on.
