Want to see the old tile view?

Just change SORT to Class (either ASC or DESC).

Now you expand to see which ever class you want. It's the old tile view, but better because it is sortable.

How is this a bad thing?

Did anyone really want to launch into a screen with all their invalid mechs every time? Madness.

Do we want a top 10 favorite READY mech list? Yes. Is the new place holder mech select a problem? No. As long as they follow through and upgrade it.

However, click on the nav pane to the left should auto open the drop down in the central display. I agree that clicking an extra time to expand is useless.

because all mechs tiled was much easier. no sorting lists, just a simple scroll and you got the mech.

you could also quickly see what loadout it had because the mech was displayed on the screen.

it was mechlab - (scroll) - select mech

now its mechlab - select clan or IS - select class - select chassis - select mech (and read info for loadout)

That central screen should also show the engine equipped, but again, that is for the upcoming Mech Select pass.

For now, sort by Class, expand all and enjoy the old view plus a list of your modules in the fastest way possible.

I still liked the old wall of Mechs a bit better.

The wall of Mechs wasn't just a Mechlab as they labelled it, it was a Mechlab, Mech Select, and Store all in one. If you actually wanted to go into the 'mechlab' from the wall, you hit 'configure' on the Mech you wanted to take into the lab.

This idea of selecting a Mech from one tab, then hitting another tab to go to the lab with the one you previously selected from the other tab... is a bit wonky IMO.

That had nothing to do with the Mechlab.

Clicking mech select, when Class is selected, should default to viewing ALL and not require clicking the weight class dropdown, I agree. Simple fix to that, tho. It simply lacks the visible mech to the right.

I hated that unsortable wall of mechs. Great for new players with a few. Those with more than 50, it becomes increasingly frustrating.

Again, when they do the select pass, it should default to class, sorted by all, with all tiles visible in the center. Then, people who want to collapse can do so, rather than having to expand by default. Can we agree on that?

You can't see quirks without doing about 8 button presses.

leaving the fact you still gotta press a useless save button before selecting the mech you want to pilot-

has it maybe struck you that there's players that don't have a crapton of gutted chassis? because, you know, it's not exactly hard to simply play for the money to replace missing engines and stuff? not to mention that if you're trying to use more than a tiny handful of your mechs, having this giant pile of menus to rifle through makes picking what you want MORE irritating?

besides, PGI's track record of following through has been among the worst in the business. giving them slack is foolish.

This new mechlab layout is not easier to use nor is it liked. They need to restore the old wall of mech ASAP. Every new roll out of UI and so called improvements is as others pointed out more complex and far less user friendly. That is not way to make a game better or design experience more enjoyable when designing mechs or looking for your mech. Restore the old wall ASAP I am not the only one saying this. How the hell does this kind screw up make it past beta do you not get input from real players?

It has. you had to click on mechlab to select your mech. same as now. (tab on the top of your screen)

I didn't like the sorting options they had then either. I'd been hoping that they'd eventually let us create our own tabs and label them as we wish.

All they need to do is increase the size of the mech select screen and I'll be 100% okay with it.

You mean it was "Mechlab - scroll... still scrolling... scroll... crap I missed it... why isn't it.. Oh I switched the sorting... There now scroll... Why are these trial mechs showing up? I almost clicked it... and done."

I hated it too. I had too many mechs of various types to easily find the one I wanted. With the current default I can quickly click, click, click my way to the one I want instead of looking at a wall of spammed mechs.

As someone with 107 mechbays, I loved the old wall. I could hit the MechLab tab and idly scroll through my collection of stompy war machines to grab whichever one struck my fancy at the time. Now the interface is just all business. Where'd all the whimsy go?

Riddle me this, where does it tell me number of owned chassis? An egoist like myself loved stroking my ego by seeing the number of mechs in my small army. Now I only know that I have 190 because I had 186 and gained 4 more today.

I miss the mech tiles. And I have 100+ mechs, drop down menus and extra clicks make it a pain.

The actual mechlab on the other hand is hands down better, but why oh why do they need to change things that weren't an issue.

TILES.!!! <_<

I have 96 'mechs and I completely disagree. The old panel had a LOT more real estate to work in. Just changing the defaults will do nothing to restore that, displaying a small fraction of the 'mechs I previously could see at one time. It makes it MUCH harder to actually poke through my inventory of chassis because the window is so small. And why the hell are the Clan and IS 'mechs arbitrarily separated? I don't mind having filter options but forcing the separation so I can never see all of them together just grinds my gears. I used to have a nightly ritual of scrolling through my entire inventory and asking myself "what looks fun tonight?", but now I have to click-click-click-click through to a specific target. There was a reason I always used the large tile over the mech select options (surprise, this isn't entirely new functionality, something very like it was on the home screen- how many actually used that, I wonder?) and that was because it was a better system.

The Smurphy-style build screen is an improvement, that I've enjoyed so far. This bundled scrap that came with it is actively making it harder for me to do what I actually want to do between matches.

Trail mechs didnt show up between your mechs on the default sorting. They already had a different tab.

It's not a screw up, it's how they decided to launch it and they have announced that there are improvements in the works. Improvements based off of feedback from real players.

"I am not the only one saying this" Just like there are a lot of people who like the new direction. There are a lot of features I like and which remove some of the infuriating functions of the old mechlab. Like I LOVE being able to quickly see equipped modules and although they should go back to the grid layout I am very thankful that I don't get kicked back to owned mechs everytime I look at a purchasable one in mechlab.
