Trust me, the community in-game is FAAARR nicer than on the forums.

The caustic attitude will be present, but it doesn't have to be a detraction. The 9th Sword ventured forth last night in a 12-man puglandia training excursion with a number of green pilots and a few veterans who had been out of the game with computer issues for a few months. We got our collective butts handed to us repeatedly, but were having fun regardless.

There was a charming, unaffiliated player who thought it fun to "gg", "what the hell is up with this 12-man", and "Oh, it's 9SD, that explains everything". If that is what they need to do to derive enjoyment from the game, I'm sorry for them but morale on our side was pretty good anyway.

As other people have mentioned, I've found the in game VOIP to be very civil by and large, there's more good than harm out there.

I've found that a game becomes more caustic when the company who is running it pushes it into more competitive game-play and away from cooperative game play.

PGI seems to be pushing this to a very individual game -- citing many of the recent 'events' as examples.

With Russ' statement that he wants to push this into e-sports expect the environment to become more caustic.

I've found this to be true 99.9% of the time as well. Forum toxicity rarely seems to translate to the in-game chat/voip.

I think most people become 'caustic' when they're getting into a series of losses that feel so beyond their control.

It's a player vs player game, someone must always lose. If you're going close 1-1 win/loss, there will be good wins, good losses, bad wins, bad losses, but each match feels like a possible opportunity. When players get onto longers streaks, frustrations build. Some are quicker to turn than others, but it always happens.

I completely lost my cool the other day when I would play 10 matches, and win only once. Walk away in frustration, come back a few hours later (different time of day and calmed down) only to rinse and repeat the same matches over. Even the 1 or 2 wins that came my way were terribly unsatisfying, either being sniped early and being carried (accomplishing nothing on my end) or having to completely and wildly carry the team (6 kills, 1000+ dmg) suggesting that the matchmaker is still not balancing the teams well.

Frustration is part of human nature. Not being able to meet online players in the flesh, it's often difficult to judge what a person is like based solely on something said in chat or Voip. I would kindly suggest patience in dealing with people who are frustrated or angry. I usually try to say something encouraging or combat rudeness with politeness (or inuendos/double-entendres if I know that player to be among my friends). POMF anyone?

It's the same thing in most online PVP games. Only when it's a "Small" community does it seem less pervasive. That's why when a game is in beta. You often here "This is such a great community, so much better than League". Which is unfair because you have to deal with a much larger pool of people.

Always gonna have the ragers and the whiners. And of course the elitists who blame everyone but themselves.

Community is fed up with slow development, non optimised game play, how channeling CW is, lack of variety of how maps play, blanace you name it, so the forums can get very toxic usually at PGI.

while there are some choice comments made in games from time to time, and I've let go a few myself, the only place I can say from experience, is better for player behaviour in a PvP gane or pvp sections of a pve is the lower levels of Neverwinter.

can't say that MWO is full of angels but its far less caustic than aion, world of tank/planes, Warthunder, GW/2 etc

Must be the beer or the age, but... untill half OP post I was thinking it was about pugs actitude in Caustic (nascar, etc)..... :D

That said, I really think I'm having a lot of fun playing and the community, average, is not toxic at all. There are exceptions, of course.
But mainly I lol and have good time.

Click-bate topic title ftw.

I agree that at the moment it's tame and pretty welcoming. And there will always be exceptions, I just think that type of behaviour shouldn't be encouraged.

Caustic attitudes is pretty much the reason I left League of Legends. Even with all my friends playing I couldn't stand the community.

I fear that that with team-blaming/elitist attitudes, it could turn away new legitimate noob players who might actually want to play and get better.

Or worse, it might encourage that kind of caustic behavior.

Every MMO has that issue... You can always turn chat off, and VoiP... but then what's the point of playing online then. Sounds like you'd be happier with an offline game experience? People have different attitudes and not everyone is polite... just like in RL.

Chill, I have no problem with the community at the moment. I'm just voicing some concern with the looming steam community enroute.

I have noticed that many players who display caustic attitudes in the in-game chat go down early on in the match and feel it appropriate to blame their fellow team mates for their demise, often including name-calling. I saw one do it last night, and usually respond with a "Chill dude, it's just a game." Then they go crazy like they have to pay R&R with real money!

Fortunately, this community isn't nearly as bad as LoL or WoT. I like that and I hope it stays that way.

I try not to put verbal on fellow players directly in game, I save it for forum and those really at fault....

The devs...

I may not agree with fellow players opinions and they may not agree with mine but I accept that, what I am having trouble accepting is financially supporting a game which has taken a direction that caters to what I see as the minority of its player base.

The longer you spend supporting this game the worse your attitude becomes.

Just a fact.

This community is fine.

However if you expect to never encounter anyone hostile on the internet you are in for a bad time.

I just don't want the game to turn into another cesspool of hate. If you had to choose between LOL community or current MWO community, which type of attitude would you foster? Negativity is expected, but constant culture of negativity is not enjoyable by my standards.

I encounter random neck beards in-game, but most of the vitriol is right here on the forums.

Nothing new.
