Heres the idea I had the minute I read the original post.
Pick one or two super super common in-universe mechs. Wasp & Stinger, for instance. Make a plausible fluff piece. "Due to battlefield attrition Wasps & Stingers have had components, limbs, and whole torsos grafted on to each other. Due to the dubious quality of these battlefield improvisations, this common design of desperation is called the Bumblebee." (Bumble: To proceed unsteadily; stumble.)
BAM. Make a whole new visual design that has visual concepts from both mechs. Make a whole new mech. And its not like we needed the Stinger AND Wasp anyways.
This allows an incredibly common canon Unseen 'Mech to appear in a whole new guise without any companies getting butthurt over it, all while maintaining a semblance of canon continuity.
I went all Batman on this thread.

Why not let Alex run wild and make an all new Mech chassis?

Granted, PGI is busy for years with the upcoming Mechs in the timeline.
But, and this is the good part, we, as in the whole community, might be able to fill the gaps.
There are plenty of people out there that already know how to build maps, Mechs, skins, voice packs, music and more. They would die to get a chance to mod this game and bring all the content online they have either stashed away or are asked to do. Many of them would just do it for fun and/or bragging rights, so it would be up to PGI to pick the content that meets/exceeds the quality standards and voila, new content for free and a thriving, adoring community that will be heavily involved for many years to come.

This is just to give a basic idea of what already exists. It does not include any unofficial sources. There may be slight overlaps due to some models having IS and Clan versions. Also, "II" or "III" variants were included as one base model unless there was a tonnage change. It is a WIP, so don't take it as gospel. Please forgive the formatting as I am in a hurry.
