I'm still taking suggestions for additional content if anybody has any.

I enjoy how clean the guide looks. I just have a few suggestions for additional content:
  • Armor - I have seen a few threads that mention the fact that armor was "doubled" in-game as compared to tabletop, which can evidently be derived from some in-game footage or screenshots. I can't remember if a Dev has formally commented on it. At minimum, it is likely important to note that general armor ratios of MWO vs tabletop will be different to ensure balance in gameplay.
  • Roles - Back in March, a Dev confirmed that the Command role's modules have been distributed to other roles, and that a "Fire Support" role has taken its place. Since then, a Dev has not provided any follow up comments on it, likely because these are highly subject to change.
  • Falling down on steep slopes - The most recent online Dev chat confirmed that such a mech animation was previously implemented, but has currently been removed.
  • Matchmaking - I think the Dev chat also confirmed that non-12v12 matches can exist, such as 8v8. As for communication, Devs have confirmed that VoIP has not been implemented because they believe other services that people currently use are sufficient for the time being.
Sorry I didn't have time at the moment to provide links to sources, but they're in threads that I've previously posted to. I'm glad to see someone else from the Mountain Time Zone getting active in MWO & the community. Based on a few previous polls, we seem to be the smallest minority in North America.

ha! Well as long as you are't limited in bandwidth, and won't incur the dreaded "wife aggro" the web server could work. But beware the wife aggro, I hear that stuff is like a bajillion DPS so... yeah.

With as much as I've read on these forums, I can't believe I haven't heard that term before. I'm SO gonna use that with my friends that play the major MMOs :)

Thank you sir, this is excellent!

Links onwards to further explanations, such as for what components do and the differences between them (e.g. standard and XL engines), may help? This may detract from its clean look though, so maybe not. Again, really very nice.

Maybe an Appendix C that links to more detailed sources of information for topics like that? I think that could work without being messy.

Yep, an additional appendix sounds like a plan, as that kind of layout with lists/bullets fits better at the end of the doc.

Wonderful, thanks!

I have to give it a more thorough read once I get home, but it does seem to deliver the basic knowledge a total rookie to the Mech universe (like me) needs to even make sense of the wikis.

That sounds like a question for a moderator.

Great work plz keep updating it.

One question though:
It says Minimum sys. req. Win Vista
Wont MWO run on XP?

Anyway I guess my 5 year old Core2Duo E6750@3GHz should finally retire.
Although I really wanted to wait for the Haswell next year....I guess ivy bridge 3570K will just be fine.

Edited:
Founders Package + new ivy rig + razer artemis
That is the single most expensive F2P I've ever seen!

That's what they say: no XP.

Pretty sure you can get by without the Razer Artemis, though.

Version 1.0.5 just went up. Now with links, a few minor details updated, and some grammar issues fixed. Given the number of the latter I stumbled upon without really even looking, I fully expect to find some more over the weekend. As always, the link is in the OP.

I suspect there are some links I probably could have included that I didn't think of. If you have suggestions for others, I'm open to them.

Incidentally, I did not find anything to support the removal of the command pilot skill tree, or the inclusion of a fire support role.If that information is out there, I can't find it. In fact, in the transcript of the recent dev chat Omid briefly mentioned the command screen that commanders will use.

Now that I'm not running late for work like I was earlier today, here are my supporting links:

Roles - There have not been any updates since March regarding moving the Commander functions and renaming the role beyond this post:"...After carefully reviewing our classes we've decided to rename Commander and move command functions into a different aspect of the game. This will allow any role to be a leader, and make room for a support role...."

I think another more recent post (that I'm having a harder time finding), Russ can be quoted basically saying the same thing, but with the disclosure that roles are are subject to change.

Falling down on steep slopes - Link to transcript here: "Our Animation Engineer - Peter Chea - once threw in an implementation like that...[snip]...but also got a little annoying so we took it out. I can't say it would never come back, but we want to make sure actually piloting the 'Mech through rough terrain is not aggravating."

Matchmaking - Same recent chat transcript: "In beta we are currently running a large number of 8v8 matches - maps like Forest Colony and Frozen City..."

Here's an older Q&A that supports this:"[MATT C] The current plan is for a maximum of 12 vs. 12 so long as we can ensure a solid play experience for that many players, otherwise we would fall back to 8 vs. 8."

Communication - Same recent chat transcript: "You have Team/Lance/All chat available in game. We decided not to build our own VOIP implementation at this time, most people usually have their own solutions (TeamSpeak, Ventrillo, etc) anyways and we decided we didn’t need to reinvent the wheel while there were other, more important things to get done first."

So the only thing I couldn't find a source for was armor doubling, and a second source for the change to the Commander functions/role.

Awesome. That's going above and beyond right there. I actually knew about most of those things already and knew what the sources were. The big exception, of course, was the role change. I did opt not to mention the falling down animation in the primer because the removal of a feature nobody knew about in the first place isn't really very useful. I would have liked to see some video of it, though. Sounds like it was pretty entertaining.

I spent my first cup of coffee this morning mulling this little tidbit over. I'll stick some caveats in the Role Warfare section related to this, but given the lack of concrete information it's hard to do much more than that at this point.

I played all previous MW titles using the mouse. But I must say
that the artemis looks intriguing.

By far the best resource for basic info on MWO. Definitely should be stickied.
