It's probably reporting just the hardware generation then. There's no such thing as an i5-2000 CPU. The 2500 runs at 3.3 ghz

Yea its a 2000 series for whatever reason it does that sometimes. what kinda RAM? DDR3? CPUZ give you speeds? or Timings?

Best i can see you just need a new GPU, GTX960 or 970 would do you good for the next few years. That rig is plenty ready to be a gamer for years to come. My othe suggestions would be to WATER COOL IT and OC it in the future to get the most out of it down the road. Getting to above 4.0Ghz at a safe temp (40-70 degrees C) with the new card would have you flying!

Don't waste your time gaming on a laptop.

Overheating piles of junk every single one, and aside from ram can't be upgraded.

Desktop PC
Mine has a 3.9ghz six core AMD
8gigs of ram
GTX650 TI Boosted.

I run on high, to very high, and at 80FPS most of the time.

RAM can be upgraded in some Laptop, even GPUs can.

My old Alienware (bought it off a kid in college when he was short on money and wanted to go out for the night, his loss) had like 6 GB in it i upgraded it to 8 and put in a second GPU. So this is a completely false statement...

Some can, some cannot. Look into it before you buy but as a rule, Desktops are a much better option then laptops.

Have you ever thought about making a nice Mobile desktop? Put in SSD drives, Miocro ATX cases with nice carry handles exist. Depends on what you will be doing with it and where you will be playing but i have a AMD 6 core that i use for just this. When i wanna game with buddies or something i load it up and take it somewhere for LAN parties, Game nights, etc. Its a small powerhouse, I even thought about making a flip up monitor mount on the top of the case so its like a giant laptop lolz!

Most laptops allow for the replacement of CPU's, RAM, and HDDs. I've not seen one yet with a replaceable GPU, mainly because it would require someone to manufacture custom cards for every model of laptop.

I have a i7 4790k and a GTX 970 and only get 40-60 frame (with dips) in regular games. In testing grounds it sits at 70. MWO is terribly optimized and I've never managed to get good, stable frame rates out of it.

After upgrading from my AMD 1090T and 6970 (which runs everything on high @ 30-40fps) I was expecting a massive improvement in frame rates. But I got bugger all. I just did a test on this PC and the difference in FPS between absolute lowest graphics and resolution and "high" graphics and 1080p is about ~5fps.

MWO is just terribly optimized all round

Just as an FYI, I also usually get around 90-120 FPS, depending on map, using a system like yours (i7-4790K, GTX 970, 16GB, SSDs). MWO is configured with everything at "Very High", except for particles set to low and anti-aliasing set to FXAA. I'm not even overclocking yet.

I do get dips though down to 60.

You could replace the GPU in most pre-Dell Alienwares. I had one for a couple years. Admittedly, there were still like four different form factor GPUs available and only one fit, but if you knew what you were doing you could replace it.

You can actually replace the entire motherboard in a surprising number of models, because so many laptops nowadays are based on the same cleevo platform and thus the same parts fit.

Regardless, upgradability is typically nil on laptops (excepting the HDD) because mobile parts are notably more expensive and less powerful than desktop parts.

More on topic, I have an i5-2500k and an R9 290 and I average about 65-70FPS, peaking above 100 sometimes with occasional drops to 45-50. I got about a 10-15 FPS boost on average from the release of AMD's crimson drivers a couple weeks ago.

I'm playing this game with all bells and whistels on Very High except shadows, which are on medium, in 2550*1440 resolution and 50-60fps on a GTX670 (not mobile, desktop).

So yeah, anything above a 960 will do it easily.

Not that I don't believe you, but I can't believe you. I don't even have AA enabled and can't hit those frame rates. Maybe the SSD is the factor here somehow? But that makes no sense either. I do have a pretty cheap motherboard (microATX), but how much could that seriously be bottlenecking as I can run every other game fine. Witcher 3 runs at 50-60fps with everything set to Ultra except for Hairworks

Thanks for the feedback last page folks.

I"m going to try the MSI GeForce GTX 750Ti DirectX 12 N750Ti TF 2GD5/OC and see how it does. Got a better deal on that than I expected.
