Played a few years ago, went back to see if account was active, remembered a few favored tanks, played 4-5 battles..........and holy crap

the MatchMaker they use.....makes MWO matchmaker look like Russ himself had lunch with each and every one, studied their online forum profile, and carefully hand selected each match based on the number of battles and weapons each player uses.

5 battles, 5 rollstomps and I mean severe...3 we rolled them, 2 we got rolled.
Its more like WOT MM says...ok, YOU lose this battle, YOU win this battle, it was quite literally win/loss/win/loss/win

Woes of Tanks? Dropped that hamstrung grind-fest the instant MWO came out. I very casually play the iPad version(I need something when I travel), and each time it reminds me why I left and why I find MWO so much more refreshing.

I keep looking at World of Warships, but the more I read about the level balancing(basically level gimping and pigeon holing into grind-fodder), the more I don't want to touch it.

I liked World of Tanks. :( I miss my Chaffee. I should see if it's still hanging around in my account.

War Thunder is much better.

The Chaffee was great, my Lorraine 40 t was exceptional(I used call guys out from across the map to let them know I was coming to kill them...then did it unscathed). These tanks epitomize the same role I prefer to play in MWO.

I concur, and the grind even there is still crippling.

The game still is sorta fun, but MWO is much more simulator-y than WoT will ever be.

MWO is actually a bit odd because rolling or being rolled is normal. It isn't because matchmaking is broke. It is just how the combat works in this game.

LOL, that is exactly what woT mm does.....if you start to win to much, it will force you into games where you get worse and worse players. That is no doubt at all.

WoT is a goddamn joke.

As said before-- Warthunder > WOT, even with the Russian Buff.

That x-ray kill cam never gets old.

There was one time that World of Tanks was really fun. Like I cannot get too much of it. Then somewhere, somehow, the game turned to complete rubbish.

War Thunder, both its air and ground modes, is much better. War Thunder in the air, is especially better, even over its ground battles component. But the problem is that the air battles is much more lag sensitive than the ground battles. Ground Battles on the other hand, has a way of getting my blood pressure up.

World of Warships, still in closed beta, but accessible if you buy something like a premium bundle, this is really really good. Its so much better than WoT, and it gives Wargaming a real chance for comeuppance against War Thunder. I should not even mention World of Warplanes which got totally drumped by War Thunder.

World of Warships is the most "different" game I have the opportunity of playing for a while. You really cannot compare this to WoT nor call WoWS, WoT in the ocean. The mechanics are very different. Magnificent as War Thunder's graphics are, WoWS can wow you even further. In contrast, WoT's graphics, even in HD models, are looking very dated (sad to say, even MWO's graphics are looking dated to me).

Armored Warfare has recently begun to test Early Access, but too many games keeping me busy now so i can't form an opinion on that yet.

For WoWS, Atlanta vs. Cleveland isn't a basketball game. I really like my Cleveland class so much, yesterday I had my best ever game with it, with 5 kills and 200+ hits. I am still trying to decide if I want to buy the Atlanta class cruiser.

I had an invite for WoT from Alienware, but the game had no multi core support yet at that time. That gave one of my 4 cores 100% activity and my cooling systems went BerSerK. The flaming was huge there, never played it again.

about 20% of games end in a 12-0 stomp, about another 20% end with more than half the enemy team left standing, however about half of all games end with less than half the enemy team left intact, and I would guess at least 15% end with 3 or less Mechs standing at match end

ether you have much worse experiences than I or you are not being completely truthful.

I understand. Been stomped so bad on World of Tanks that it is not even funny. The only thing I will say is that they do have some great maps.

Update 9.8 is now out. They are introducing an event that will last for one month, mainly a limited respawning event on Domination mode. Right now it uses three Tier X tanks which are provided for free, so even if you don't have a Tier X tank, you can use these just for that event.

Limited respawns on a Domination map? Hmmm... It just shows how much War Thunder has been taking a bite out of them, limited respawns + domination being War Thunder's Arcade Mode staple.

Limited respawns + Domination would probably work very well on MWO too, as it would alleviate the public game problem of games lasting too short. But unlike CW, the number of spawns should just be limited to three, and the mechs should be all of the same weight class or variants of the same model, instead of a pallete with a total of 240 tons. This is because the matchmaker uses weight class + ELO as a factor in its algorithms.

World of Tanks is a classic case for a successful game that has entered a matured state and with it, an advanced state of artherosclerosis. I can think of a few other games that has entered this state like World of Warcraft and EVE Online. I can also think of a few other games that are ENTERING this state, including Final Fantasy 14, War Thunder, and yes, this game --- MWO.

Some of the characteristics of this state is ---

Higher and higher grind for more and more powerful objects.
New layers of complexity and power building adding to the power creep and making the game even more difficult to balance.
Excessive content., and essentially running out of ideas what to put next.
Increasing deviation from its original core premises.

I used to play WOT alot myself. I finally got tired of the unbelievable grind to the higher tiers and the RNG. (I mean come on how does a shell miss a tank 100 meters in front. ugh) Plus, at least in MWO every mech can cause damage. No ricochets here. :P

That is because the game applies a flat penetration figure in all ranges as if everything is a HEAT shell. This is unlike War Thunder where you have historically documented ranged penetrations, so 100m is going to have much greater penetration than 500m. In fact, War Thunder also factors penetration probabilities not just in angles, but also shape of the projectile. For example, needle or spindle shaped APCR or HVAP shells have a tendency to deflect more than ogive shaped APHE, APHEBC or AP projectiles. Fusing also matters in War Thunder, since they also historically model the fuse delays, which can matter if you one shot a tank or not. The extent of fragmentation also matters, as well as the amount of HE inside a shell (Germans and Russians tend to put more HE inside a shell than the Americans did). Shells with more HE inside them has a tendency to kill a target with one shot, compared to solid (dud) shells like APCR, HVAP or HEAT, which requires hitting critical parts. If you're coming from WoT and into War Thunder, the lack of HP, and the entire science of tank ammunition, armor modeling, and criticalities (like hitting a tank on the driver's port) can hit you like a brick in the face.
