Well, and the problem is that many of the community are going to wonder about every match they ever played before where there were certain tags on the other side. I can think of one CW match where the 12 of us were wondering about some rather iffy gameplay from the other side of the field where they seemed to always know where we had shifted to despite there not being any spotters or UAVs in LoS or close enough to detect us.

We had one guy watching the Beta Gate while they came through Alpha and they were not yet through the gates so how they knew where the people in the back of our formations were shifting to was weird. So now because that unit had people who were cheating while wearing that tag we will always wonder about that game.

Why do so many just think it's ok to treat others poorly on the internet, for any reason?

Have you ever thought that this is why players may feel so much pressure as to resort to cheating?

This subject has been discussed til everyone is blue in the face. What you call treating people poorly is someone elses good humored smack talk.

I personally hate smack talk but choose to ignore it. The only thing I can do to stop it is win.

Utontihso, PGI didn't START anything, your former command staff of your team did, PGI caught them using the hacks and busted them for it. They were even given a warning to STOP USING THEM before they went hunting for the hack users, they ignored that warning, so it is TOTALLY on them, not on PGI.

Normally, I wouldn't think twice about the rest of your unit, PGI was clear on who was banned and why. However...I will say, you trying to defend some of them by claiming it was an IP ban, THAT makes me wonder about the rest of your team now. PGI didn't IP ban anyone, they banned ACCOUNTS that were actively caught using a specific hack, so when you say that...yeah...don't EVER try to defend someone busted for using hacks, all you do is tarnish your own reputation.

Well I feel like there it's a demarcation between a bit of smack and outright harassment.

I grew up in small town Mississippi where I spent years known as "that gay little artsy kid" and all the slurs and insults that come with that and I didn't escape it until I joined the Army.

Smack talk is when other guys in my unit and I **** talk each other over various stuff, but it's never gone far and it's usually good natured ribbing.

That kind of thinking is why {Godwin's Law} happened. (HlTLER)
And what if this was true? Does that really mean anything about the person you are trying to insult?

My Grandma came from Italy... Does that make her a Mafia momma? Your attempts at insults requires refinement.

This thread reminds me why I try to not to use the generic good game when it was a stomp either for or against my team.

I try to use thanks for the drop as to be honest sometimes just GETTING a drop in CW is minutes of waiting dreading a possible ghost

But then to have to wait for those minutes only to encounter cheaters? Sorry that deserves a ban and a public shaming.

If your unit was cheating and had more than one person get the ban hammer then either suck it up or dissolve the unit. I for one salute PGI for taking the time to name and shame.

Oh your preaching to the choir here. It's the reason I don't smack talk, because everyone draws the line in the sand at a different point. I try to respect my opponent until they give me a reason not to.

I kind of define smack talk as banter towards people you have a loose connection with. If it's buddies, it is pure ribbing. Buddies know where that line is and can generally get away with it, the people talking smack don't care.

Also, I would love to make fun of your small town Mississippi butt, BUT I'm from Alabama. Pot and kettle.

All that's really needed is public denouncement of the confirmed cheating banned player by the unit leadership. It's not hard to get over this.

Based on my experiences observing the Starcraft 2 community I fully expect former cheaters to cheat again, possibly this time taking some steps to convince the community they've come clean.

I think about it this way: I know I can cheat if I want to, but I never will. I think most people feel that way. Now imagine for a moment the kind of personality that actually does cheat. Something's gotta be off with said person.

This, people always assume it's just being mean but anyone who's ever played a sport, even with just friends, knows that people can say some stupid things just to throw you off or in the spirit of the game (Unless it's pro sports, bring in "sportsmanship" fines..). People are too sensitive in this day and age, when did parents stop telling their kids "sticks and stones may break your bones but words will never hurt you!". I mean i've read theories that this type of thing has happened before, close to the fall of the Roman Empire and various other now non-existant nation-states where populations become so distracted and sensitive to the mundane that their world collapses around them while they bite at eachothers heels, but ...i digress.

Quite simply, people are cautious, suspicious, and some possibly even angry that your whole unit wasnt disbanded, so comments abound shouldn't be unexpected. You can ignore them, agree with them, or show them you don't need cheats to win (and then be called a cheater but then you just laugh it off and take it as a compliment). IMO, in the real world of adults, it's not harassment unless they're spamming your email, or calling your phone, or knocking on your door, or following you around. It's just petty slinging of insults, let it slide off. Or as should have been told to you "Sticks and stones"...
