I'm usually in a light on Conquest and I frequently encounter DC mechs at spawn. In the past, I've shown no mercy and taken the easy kill. I guess I was figuring the DC wasn't coming back anyway, so it was more cleanup than anything else.

But I just had a bad experience where some poor guy reconnected after I had cored out his back and almost killed him. He escaped but was killed off by the first major alpha he encountered, and then promptly quit. I can imagine he was ticked, as he went through a whole lot of bs to try to get reconnected in time, only to be crippled in the first minute. Not fun for him I'm sure.

So I am no longer going to vulture disconnects. You can join me or not, but its simply not sporting and just pisses off a player base that we need to increase, not run off.

Sorry can't do it i like money to much :P

Really if it mattered the team should be by him protecting the disconnect. We do this a lot when we drop in a premade.

Admittedly it's rarely the pilot's fault, but there's really nothing to be done besides take the kill for yourself before one of your teammates shows up. And besides, do you really want to risk the outcome of every single match because "WHAT IF HE COMES BACK!??!"

I've been disconnected in nearly every possible situation - Safely at spawn right at the start (mostly a rare CTD for me), just before my team engaged the enemy in a glorious deathball and of course, right in the middle of a brawl or just as I turn a corner to engage an enemy. Dead every single time.

It was a pug on Forest Colony. I think its too much to ask the other 11 to stop their play to protect a DC at spawn.

But hey, do what you want. But I will no longer be taking the cheap kills unless its the last one alive.

If there's a chance that staying to protect a DC for the perhaps 30-60 seconds it takes them to reconnect would tactically disadvantage the team then I'd say that sacrificing one mech for the sake of the entire team is a hard but justifiable choice. I don't expect the team to hang around for me on the rare occasions when this happens. It's a crappy way to be taken out but sadly being left behind is sometimes necessary.

you would better kill them anyway

once a week ago or so i unknowingly joined the game, realized it when i was in game for like 5 minutes, for some reason i was only lightly damaged but not killed, i promptly killed their locust and then their enforcer and basically ruined their only chance to win by cap

it's better to kill a dcer than to hurt your team leaving them alive, an undamaged mech in the end of game especially near a cap point can mean a lot, it can kill a whole lance of damaged mechs with a bit of luck

Remember it's not the players fault he disconnected. It's PGI's poor programming.

We just have to decide which is more important, emphasizing the problem by killing disconnects until PGI fixes it.

or,

Soothing the problem by refusing to kill disconnects so we don't lose even more players to rage quitting but then have PGI ignore the problem as not bad enough to be worth fixing.

can't they slot someone else in if when the countdown reaches 5 (or some arbitrary number), and the person's ping is zero?

DC mechs make good bait though. I've played a river city game where they got a few guys to camp near a DC with an ECM, and wiped out our light lance who raced over to try to get a free kill. Similar situation in other maps...

However, more often than not, some light usually runs over in record time, and cores them out.

On many occasions I've just strafed them a bit. Figure at least I'll get an assist, they are down a bit of armor and I can go fight an actual threat. Sometimes I'll take an arm as a souvenir. :P

A free kill is a free kill, but i wouldn't waste everyone's time by farming C-Bills off of components... i'll just HD/CT and get it over with.

Just remember that if they are off hunting for your DC your team has even, or sometimes better numbers if you can instigate a brawl as the enemy has 1 or possibly more mechs going for the "Easy kill"

I've watched a DC'd guy come back at the last second and wipe 6 mechs off the field. I'm not going to risk that ;)

Although, I won't rat out a DC guy. I did that once and literally the second I hit enter he reconnected. I felt like such a pile of garbage afterwards.

If someone is going to quit over this, they'll find plenty of other things to quit over soon enough. Do your team a favor and kill the DC or, at the very least, give your teammates it's location.

DC's and afk'ers are the mwo piñatas. The harder and longer you hit them with ya stick the more candy they drop. So farm them hard before they go down.

a code of 'chivalry' would only work if the majority of players will follow it. I don't see that happen.
