I'll try and make short and sweet, cuz the idea only came to me last night. I don't have the concept fully fleshed out, mostly cuz I don't even know if it's something people would be interested in.

Hear me out for a brief sec...

.......Boxing.

Slap Club.

A league built around brawling, in which there are 4 weight classes [light/med/hev/ass].
Each weight class would have a corresponding 'ceiling' for alpha damage - remember this is just an idea these numbers are examples - say, 20 for assaults, 15 for heavy, 10 for med, 5 for small.

To me, I think it would be pretty ******* hilarious to fight Atlas vs Atlas with both guys packing like, a trio of Small Lasers and a couple SRM2s. Fights like that would last... I dunno, what, at least a couple minutes?

Would be kinda interesting... the give and take of it all...

So it's basically an idea for 1v1 or maybe 2v2/3v3, in which the format limits what the players can use, to extend TTK to ridiculous levels and thus make it about soaking, endurance, focus, etc.

I've only mentioned this to 2 people, in casual passing, they laughed but said post it here and see what people think.

So................... if people like this idea or are at least interested in it, lets talk about it some, maybe hash out something more concrete or standardized, and see where it goes from there.

Yeah but not mechs, have a Circle of Equals match where the pilots meet face to face in fisticuffs. Like Mike Tysons Punchout......

Lol I'm laughin, and I'm amused, but I'm also interested in why you say this. Please expand. I mean, Saltybet has tons of fighters in it that do nothing but crutch leg sweeps or grapple throws or much much cheesier **** than that, but it's highly entertaining still. ;) :lol:

This sounds like a job for....

... the PGI animation team!


Well if they're going to implement melee at some point (yay, hand actuators!), it would be hilarious to see a melee only tournament. Rock'em Sock'em Solaris League! Much like real boxing, I imagine it would be all about footwork and angles, so you can really hit the opponent's weak points (rear armour and, of course, cockpit hitbox knock-outs!)

Another example of how to format it could be something like, instead of restricting alpha itself, limit the tonnage of weaponry arbitrarily.

So like, 2 tons max weaponry for light class, 4 for meds, 6 for hev, 8 for ass.

So far the feedback hasn't been over the top but it's been pretty much all positive. I've been waiting for someone to drop a **** on the concept, but.

Anyways this may be a funny and different way of playing the game...

Solahma suggests, if the above idea, then it should be sliding, like... 20 tonner gets 3.5 tons max weaponry, 25 tonner 3, 30 gets 2.5, 35 only 2.

And same would apply up the rest of the weight classes. xD

Players tend to gravitate to the simplest solution. 1 on 1, if you leg a mech they lose mobility and you gain an advantage. Throw in that it's more liekly than not that players will remove leg armor to use the tonnage on another area, I'm willing to bet you'd see legging, followed by a kill to the other leg happening a lot.

Just my feeling.

Who would be removing leg armor when a lot of mechs wouldn't even be able to get to full tonnage used... xD

It's a little more 'derp' than that, Quick.

Tested last night with Lord Scarlet Johan, IronChance, Edmeister, Mister D, and Acey130.

Was seriously a lot of fun. Today I'm working out more concrete numbers to see if we can break my format I have come up with so far...
