should i just save for the stalker? I already own 4 others, only missing this and the 4N, so i can say i like um. I need the XL-255 for a spider anyway. But i have to ask, what does the 5S so, that the others can't besides the dual AMS?

Looking for practical builds that people enjoy, that ya can't do in the others. Quirks, make it seam like a brawler, has some crazy Narc quirk too. 3SRM6 with some lasers and a narc? *shrug

Do quad 4's and 6's get ghost heat?

Get the XL. I love my Spiders. The only time I drive an assault is to remind myself how much I hate driving assaults, so maybe I'm not the most unbiased person out there. But, because you don't need the Stalker to get your mastery, I'd still suggest getting the engine.

I sold my 5S long ago, never have bought it back. I wouldn't save for it just for an XL255.

Hi JC,

This is such a subjective question. It depends completely on what makes you smile.

I am MECH COLLECTOR, with the goal of owning every single Inner Sphere chassis, every variant, and every Hero before I pilot a single Clan mech. So for me, it would be the Stalker.

But.. if you already own 4 of the better ones, I see little reason to buy a Stalker that can only AMS better than the rest.

The XL 255 is a 'must have' engine along with the XL300, XL280, XL225 and perhaps a few others.

Enjoi!

Skip this variant, buy the 255XL if you don't have an XL 250 and consider the 4N as it does large laser spam very well.

I only own one 255XL which I move around, mostly between various fifty ton mediums. I would buy more modules or mechs before that specific engine.

The XL255 is an amazing engine for quite a few mechs: Enforcer, Panther, Spider, Cataphract 4X, and many others.

Once you have 3 Stalkers it becomes far less urgent to pick up more. I'd suggest holding off on finishing the Stalker collection until you've broadened your other mech selections a bit. Personally, I find that variety makes things a lot more interesting.

The STK-5S needs a bigger engine size, or some decent quirks (LPL, and ML, and missile heat quirks aren't enough for this guy to be worth it.)

Just to summarize and clarify my comment above:

XL255 is a great, gotta have it engine.
STK-5S is a "meh" Stalker (but STKs are a great chassis)

You totally want that engine, but it isn't worth buying the 5S just for it.

and I seem to have forgotten to add that it's the -5S that needs the upgrades I suggested. XD Fixing now.

Skip both options and buy the STK-4N instead.

thanks guys.. I was playing around with smurfy, and i kinda came up with the same conclusion, the other stalkers do everything i need.. I'll save the 3M and pick up another weapon module.. I'm sorta at the point now, that i am just buying modules and engines to complete mechs..

The quirks on it do seem a bit weird,, It looks like it would make a great brawler, and they typically don't need AMS at that point. Makes me wonder why the 4H, isn't the one with dual AMS... Or requirk the thing
