Clearly, there was someone behind you, who was hiding between shots.
As much as people like to fret about hacks, in a server authoritative setup like MWO has, you can't hack that. They'd have to be behind you. It's entirely possible to kill people like that, though, without them ever seeing you.

Keep playing. It happens from time to time. A combination of crazy hitreg and wonky hitboxes. Many mechs can be hit in the rear armour from the front. It's annoying, but it's not going to change any time soon. And fortunately, it doesn't happen that often.

It is wonky hit-reg, I had the same thing in my CW matches, both a hellbringer and Stormcrow got side-torso'ed from behind, while taking UAC and gauss hits from the front. It seems to be tied to ballistics and hit reg

Lot's of mechs have funky hitboxes.
My Hunchbacks for example,I could get hit in the rear torso armor, yet I lose front armor. Even when I torso twist away from it to spread the damage I will get hit more in the front no matter what.
This even happens in the Hunchies without the pronounced hunch.
Hellbringers get this a lot too.
Want a great example of a wonky shot?
I took an AC20 from an atlas point blank but I was twisted away from the AC20 and moving constantly but he still cockpit shot me both shots he took and killed me.
Dragons have funky hit boxes. I could take a shot CT and it spreads to my torsos or back. Raven's are still a little weird at times.

Happens a fair bit in regular games too.
Personally I believe there's areas on the top of mechs where you can hit the rear armour if you're shooting down on it. Think it comes down to the location of the seam between the front and rear hitboxes having to be on the top surface somewhere.
I've lost the hunch on my HBK from 'rear' hits frequently because of things hitting me from above. On high maps it could be sniper fire coming down on you from above getting mis-assigned to your rear torso.

I actually saw lasers completely shoot through mountains today at the start of a CW match. I swear. Like, you know how folks run their lasers at the beginning of a match? It's like some of the IS folks were doing that, and it just kept going, all the way through the map to where we were. No damage, of course, but there they were. I thought, there's no way their lights could have gotten all the way across the map that fast, haha.
This game is so full of bugs.
