So ive been a MW player since DOS on crescent hawks, and i have a very hard time using the keyboard for turning strictly and mouse for torso strictly. The way i played in mw2,3,4 was mainly with the numeric pad, udlr, and the home pageup group. (weapon grouped 1-6 on home ect./turning and speed on udlr/ udlr on numpad for turning, 7 and 9 for torso left right, 0 for change zoom level, bunch other for flush jj ect.)

The way i turned primarily (and how i strafe aimed specifically) was with mouse to hold a steady target on the move, and then you could hold the left mouse button, and this would lock legs(for mouse, not keyboard:remember numpad) and allow you to move your torso(with or without unlocked arms, i like armlock, so that's me)

I found in All MW games it has almost Impossible for me to aim and hit a barn when my mouse is controlling torso. Ive seen a topic about this before and it was quickly dismissed as(your should get use to it, you haven't been playing long enough ect.) But ive been playing almost daily since beta and i Still Cannot Aim and get horribly frustrated. Just a toggle for mouse legs/torso would make me the happiest man alive

If Anyone has a clue if theirs a way to address this i would ultra appreciate it. and if your haveing the same problem shout out!

You could do some creative mapping and try to load your mouse as a midi device/joystick. Might work.

It's probably not going to work as well as the standard way and you'll wish you just spent 20-50 bucks on a joystick instead.

Somehow you cannot aim, but have Ace of Spades achievement.....something does not add up here

you know in mechwarrior 2 i used a joystick. they actually implemented it as a zeroth order device and it was actually playable.

He also has the very NKVA-esque habit of liking his own post.

To do this...you first need to buy 3 steering wheels.

1.) You put one steering wheel on the floor for your feet.

2.) You put one steering wheel on your desk for your hands.

3.) You replace your seat with a steering wheel.

Bind movements to suit your tastes, and one day when you are great at aiming...you can put that you use 3 steering wheels on your comp team application...

It would actually be pretty neat to turn your chair into a controller. Might be kind of awkward to strafe though when your body is at a 90 degree + angle.

Cant work a joystick to save my life either, tried every iteration of 6 axis joy's, no my cup of tea.

When I started Mech 2 way back when, I used my keyboard 100% of the time for turning and for torso+aiming. That meant every Jump Jet, Roundabout, Backjet, etc was precisely calculated and compensated for leg direction and upper torso position for crosshair aiming and lag shooting with just the keyboard... These days quite literally anything is possible for input creativity so if you have a theory, nothing is limiting you other than your own imagination.

That is quite the workaround. I don't know how I would have played the old MW titles without a joystick and throttle.

Set your mouse sensitivity low. The added precision allows for more deliberate aiming at the cost of not moving your cursor as fast, and it is 1000% worth it.

Perhaps "low" is not the appropriate suggestion but more accurately at a speed where 1 = 1.30, or 1 = 1.60 movement ratio as keyboard turning doesnt run out of mousepad or require relocating a mouse to do... So setting your mouse to perform well not only in game but also within the physical boundaries of the pad and your own capabilities to accurately and comfortably control it would be ideal.

one really interesting thing about mechwarrior 2, you can use your trackir with it, though it did take some work.

I found using the joystick was confusing until I inverted the throttle. So to go forward I pull back on the stick. Sounds counter intuitive but is actually the more intuitive method. I also is less fatiguing as to go forward you just rest your arm back.

I use this in my left hand and mouse for torso.

Plus it's cheap and ambidextrous.

I use the Thrustmaster T.160000 joystick in my left hand for turning left and right and moving forward and back for throttle. Trigger Fire button is targeting, the other 3 are for weapons groups, hat is for enahnced zoom magnification. Mouse is for torso twist and firing groups one and two weapons. middle mouse wheel is for zoom.
