I'm playing with the Wolverines at the moment, and one of the big attractions of them for me was the WVR-6R. The idea of basically duel rapid firing AC5s, but there is where the problem lies.
In order to use duel AC5s, I need to spend approx 6 million Cbills on components, mainly the XL255 (I am using Gman's build for it since I really don't know any better: http://mwo.smurfy-ne...60a5d6130025ee4 )

6 million took me the better part of 2 1/2 days of playtime, and I havn't bought any weapon modules yet. If I assume I will buy the AC5 cooldown module, some other cooldown mod, Seismic Sensor and Radar Deprivation , the price of this one medium mech, which I want because "the idea of duel AC5s appeals to me" is approximately 30,000,000 Cbills.

That seems way, way to much. For something I may not even use all that often.

Is this something I should advoid? Is this kind of configuring mechs for the upper echelons of ELO that honestly I probably won't be a part of (which is fine with me btw, I'm happy with how I go)?

Or is this something I should be doing for each mech, and not buying new ones until I have completed the current?

Nope. It's not like you can't take those modules and use them on other mechs.

mechspecs.com is a good place to find successful builds, giving you an idea of what you want out of your mech/how much you can expect to pay. For 6R builds, here's a link straight to https://www.mechspec...ums/wvr-6r.110/ On a personal note, I don't mind if modifying a Mech costs alot of C-Bills because it gives you a goal to work towards. I run the 6R myself and it's dakka-rrific so well worth the $ lol

Another suggestion, never sell engines or modules even if at the time you have no use for them or even if you're strapped for CBills, having the gear on hand is a godsend in the long run.

You will be fine without most modules, although radar dep is highly recommended. I only had 1 radar dep module for almost 100 mechs until CW came along. When you are finished levelling the mech you will have enough c-bills to buy seismic. Also the XL 255 is quite universal and can be used in a ton of other mechs.

PS: Bill's right by the way, it never pays to sell XL engines. I only ever sold advanced zoom modules of which I bought a few too many in the beginning when I thought they were useful.

If you are leveling Wolverines, then get a 7K and use its XL275 until you have enough spare cash to buy an XL255. You could do this build:

Or, drop the SRM and go all in with the AC ammo and add a few more jump jets, too.

Its not too bad.

Im saving for my last Warhawk. 16million.

Almost to 10 mill. I grind in my X5...which the weekend bonus was nice.
Would have got it earlier but i bought a Quickdrawl to troll around in with my Unit.

Like others have said:

Dont sell XL engines
Keep 1 of each std engine as well.

Modules are expensive, but the ability to move them from mech to mech is what makes them valuable (and the reason they cost so much).

You're right, though. To get to the higher ELO brackets, you need them, and once there, you'll find that everyone has them, so you need them to stay competitive. They're good investments and while the up front cost is steep, it's worth it in the long run.

everything is reusable in any of the mechs you own so it's never wasted cash. i generally have 3 of every module i prefer since i usually have 3 fav mechs on the go at any given time, but i'v played over 5500 games so it was all accumulated over time. i didn't even buy my 1st weapons module until 4-6 months after they were introduced so don't worry about it

have fun, and spend the CB you had fun earning with no regrets
