Of course we all still use smurphy...

BUT now with the new mechlab, when I'm in MWO I don't leave MWO to prebuild the mech in smurphy and then come back to MWO and build it that way.

Well, that's what I mean. Maybe it should have been more clear in the OP, but I'm asking if people have started using Mechlab instead of smurfy when they're in-game.

Previously, I think most people would be in-game, then Alt+Tab to smurfy to build a mech, and then make that build in the Mechlab. Instead of experimenting in the UI itself. So I'm wondering if people are content to just use the Mechlab, or if they're still relying on Smurfy to put their builds together.

I do not see people stopping Smurfy use. While mainly known for Mech building, it also has equipment lists to check out of game for discussion and maps.

I have two screens so I'll usually hop in Smurphy's while waiting for a match to end to shorten my build time. The stare and compare is a lot easier now though. :)

Is it wrong that I've never used with any consistency it in the first place?

I only go there when linked to it by someone else. The only time I mess with mech loadouts is in game anyway though.

Same here (largely)... I've got enough of the most common kit in my mechlab to "experiment" without incurring additional costs.

I habitually strip chassis' before I sell them off so my garage is fairly cluttered. :P

I use Smurfy while waiting for matches, while I'm dead, etc, so it's always open on my second monitor.

Probably would use the in game more with one monitor, but since it's already open, even in between matches i use it.

Well, i don't use smurfy to build mechs for a long time now. I just use it for sharing builds and do quick tests when i'm away from the mwo pc.

There are hugely more powerful tools out there than smurfy. yes they are third party applications. But the analysis and data they give you is very detailed.

one such tools that i use constantly: (Li-song mech lab)
https://github.com/E...k/lsml/releases
some big pluses over smurfy:
- no need to update. It just use mwo data and any new mech/quirk/tweak is automatically there with zero delay.
- realistic analysis. takes quirks/modules into account for stats. even simulated jam chance on UACs
- pod space to speed graph for std and XLs.
and
- it can export to smurfy for sharing.

As for the ingame mechlab... yes it has become much much easier and faster to build a mech you just analyzed on a 3rd party mechlab

I still use smurphy's. I can't really play MWO at work, so it's helpful to have during my down times, until I can go home. Plus it's still handy for linking builds to the forums.

Exactly this.

I'll mess around with a build in the Mechlab occasionally, but for serious building I do it in Smurfy first and then only do the actual final creation in the Mechlab.

lolno

seriously, as my notebook hasn't the res to support the expanded view and because you cant export a build for the forums I'll continue to use smurfy. Man I can even build on a tablet with it. in bed, next to my wife! Or... I could,i think...

Oh goodness no.

I don't understand the game's heat management numbers, I learned in Smurfy and that's how I think. Also, browser based, mobile and no chance of accidentally spending millions of CB.

This. It's way easier to throw together a build in smurfy, check the price and various stats and then make modifications than do the whole thing in the mechlab.

Of course testing still needs to be done in-game so sometimes I'll dry fit in the mechlab just to see how I like the look of things.

Why would I stop using smurfy?

smurfy is conveninently the best Mechlab game in town!

There are still bugs in the mechlab too (apparently the game forgets to check what weapons I have to showing the applicable weapon modules).

Still using smurfy. No reason to stop doing so, even though MWOs mechlab got some improvements it has a long way to go if it ever wants to catch up.

No, of course not.

The heat management numbers are useless with no cooling rates, cooling efficiency etc.

I can open up smurfy's mech list as a side by side reference to what I have in the lab, and I can have multiple versions of the same general build direction up side by side in tabs (dual monitor) to compare.

On top of that smurfy's has an ease of use that makes it actually enjoyable to use the in-game mechlab and UI do not.

They are something you put up with until you can finish your mech and play the game.

smurfy's is like going to a great restaurant and looking at all of the choices on the menu, it's part of the fun.

in-game mechlab/UI is like waiting on a line at that great restaurant for 45 minutes.
