Biggest expose yet.

http://www.escapistm...-of-the-Company

I know there's two sides to the story, but I'm inclined to believe this. It's coming from multiple sources, it's too organic to be faked, it's consistent with what we've heard before, and it just sounds like human nature. Whereas Roberts' version is just rosy and perfect.

The truth is probably somewhere in the middle. Roberts causing problems, and his employees reacting just as badly.

Some people just like to ride trains, they don't know where it is going, but other people are on it, so they want to go too.

Nah... it'll be fine. They just need to release SQ42. The drama about the game is all manufactured. It ain't real.

I like how this can be applied to about 99% of the people in this thread, on both sides of the argument. :D

The article was an interesting and somewhat worrying read, though. Anyone with more than just a bit of frontline experience in this industry knows that it is very networked, so stuff like "whistleblowers" is quite rare, as people like these tend to get stigmatised across companies. It would take some serious trouble for someone to badmouth their former (or current!) employer, and for several of these people to come forward is extraordinary. Ask yourself: If you had landed a job at that company, would you be willing to leave it if everything went peachy? Or risk it by talking to some journalist?

At the same time, I think it should be remembered that the truth is often found somewhere in the middle of two extremes, so people shouldn't just gobble up any allegations without a second thought (the same goes for belief in Mr. Robert's statements). Plus, the Escapist's supposed proximity to GamerGate makes me immediately sceptical of anything they publish.
On the other hand, the story offers a really good (as in: plausible) explanation for why CIG keeps cranking out highly priced premium starships about every month, as well as the delays in the project or the poor rankings on glassdoor.

Time will tell, I suppose. Until then .. more popcorn!

Yes, the Social Module testing just went live for their backers. They have to load up their hanger, enter an elevator, which they 'use' and that transitions them into a decent-sized level with other backers.

I myself don't have any money invested in SC, but certainly have money set aside for it. Personally I'm just waiting to see if the SP gets released, then I'll buy that.

You don't have to be a backer to see the patch notes though (here). And some backer impressions of it.

Yeah... Been there was bar... and dancing.... But... men.... ALL spacemen...

Oh, I have no doubt there will be many who will be disappointed. It's pretty much inevitable when you have one million players with a million different sets of expectations. Now, they've already failed to deliver what they promised many times, by pushing back release dates, tweaking the rules for LTI, etc.

But even if you disregard what Star Citizen has promised to be (which is just... mind boggling, so ambitious that I don't think many sane people expect them to deliver all they've promised) and just focus on what Star Citizen has delivered already... it's pretty damned impressive. I won't get into detail, but suffice it to say... they have working cockpit monitors ;)

Wow working cockpit monitors and a game that from the looks of it with an original 2014 release date now bumped to 2017 with out the CORE single player kickstarter pitch in sight has delivered more than MWO? Really? This isn't a troll post? Or April 1st?

That's not Forbes. It's just some guy's blog he registered on Forbes. It has about as much value as a reddit post.

The fact that Gamergaters are attacking Star Citizen just shows how much attention needs to be paid to the Escapist article. Ironic that an organization that purports (laughably) to be about ethics in journalism has created such an incredibly unethical article in the first place. Using Glassdoor reviews (that the submitter of himself admitted was faked just to mock Derek Smart) as their sources is hilarious, especially as she tried to say they were all vetted.

Gamergaters using anonymous Glassdoor.com reviews being used to attack a company... yup. You're right, it *does* sound like it came right out of the PGI story!

Watching Vassago Rain turn on them was not only the most predictable outcome ever, it was also a little bit satisfying to boot. :D

To be fair, the writer of that post has done nothing to prove their point. All they've done is point out that you can fake Glassdoor reviews. Does that mean that the sources the Escapist article was built on are bogus? Only if you believe that this magazine is flat-out willing to lie to your face, which would have serious long term consequences, all for ... what? A one-time spike in clicks?

I think some people should take a step back and ask themselves who actually has to gain more from claiming BS, and who would risk more when the truth ultimately comes to light.

The reddit poster there is particularly far gone when they're already complaining about Escapist applauding the Battletech kickstarter when they did the very same thing for Star Citizen. But I guess that's why "fan" comes from "fanatic". :P

It is fairly well known if one is interested in reading about gaming news. I don't follow it myself, but have read some of their articles. The best well-known aspect of Escapist is probably the Yahtzee video reviews, as those are pretty fun to watch if you like a heavy dose of sarcasm.

Either way... if it were a publicity stunt, it would seem like a fairly bad idea to needlessly provoke the ire of so many fans. Reporting bad things about Star Citizen these days is like poking a bee hive.
That's not to say that some silly exec may not have thought this would be utterly brilliant. Still, it's like assuming your local newspaper would run an article falsely claiming bad things about the local sports team just to rack up sales -- knowing that not only would the truth be revealed in a couple months or years, but that a lot of their readers are fans of the team and might not take kindly about such allegations.

People, can we please stop for a second and realize that Glassdoor is an open forum?

They are not requesting any proof that you work there, I could sit here and write twenty reviews from twenty IPs and if it isnt completely poorly written, it will be released as a review of CiG from an anonymous "employee"

STUFF WRITTEN ON GLASSDOOR HAS AS MUCH JOURNALISTIC VALUE TO IT AS A WET FART IN THE MORNING

Do we all realize this ? Have you understood the principle of Glassdoor?

Okay move on

A person like Derek Smart does not care if it is bad publicity or good publicity, these people live of attention.

I know many names I would call him but that would mean getting on his level and I don't like my knees dirty.

Derek has sued Chris Roberts for "stealing his idea" back when he made Wing Commander. He is on a personal crusade against Chris and everything that connects to him.

Wether you as a fan,
his most personal information,
his project,
hell, he doesnt even stop when kids get involved.

it's not just glassdoor, there was an e-mail leak... from an employee called 'David Jennison'

the leak was taken down when that person had a change of heart...

https://www.reddit.c...cter_artist_in/

I've read the original e-mail myself but didn't think to archive it (because I don't tryhard when I troll).
