you don't believe me? it means you didn't read 'don quixote' or chivalry romances.

knight errants almost always (or at least very often) had something which we would classify as a grave cheating

for instance:

Bradamant or Bradamante. Sister of Rinaldo, in Ariosto's Orlando Furioso. She is represented as a most wonderful Christian Amazon, possessed of an irresistible spear, which unhorsed every knight that it touched.

^ basically an aimbot

Mambrino's Helmet was of pure gold, and rendered the wearer invulnerable. It was taken possession of by Rinaldo (Orlando Furioso). Cervantes tells us of a barber who was caught in a shower, and to protect his hat clapped his brazen basin on his head. Don Quixote insisted that this basin was the enchanted helmet of the Moorish king.

^ the god mode cheat, very popular, almost common, here is a passage from 'orlando furioso', about its main hero:

Deemed that he would have short resistance made;
Since him they saw no covering buckler brace,
Uncuirassed, nor in other arms arrayed;
But knew not that, from head to foot, a skin
More hard than diamond cased the Paladin.

yeah, to meet a cheater is not a pleasant surprise

Orlando slew him with a wound in the navel, his only vulnerable part.

^ yet another guy with the no damage cheat, but he was slain by orlando, another aforementioned cheater; i can list some others but the matter is already clear enough

and finally, here is a couple of completely ridiculous cheats, thankfully we don't have something like that in mwo... lol has a bit similar cheat though, it's called drop hack and allows you can break a match at will:

Logistilla gave Astolpho a magic horn, and whatever man or beast heard its blast was seized with panic, and became an easy captive.
http://www.infopleas...s/astolpho.html

But Orgoglio knocks him down from behind and would have killed him had not Arthur unveiled his shield, which blinded both beast and giant. Now the knight brings the giant to the ground and chops off his head.

^ that's from another poem, 'faerie queene', but it was borrowed from 'orlando furioso' which had the same mass blinding shield too

p.s.

surprisingly, those cheaters considered that magic was ok, but firearms were foul:

"O loathed, O cursed piece of enginery,
Cast in Tartarean bottom, by the hand
Of Beelzebub, whose foul malignity
The ruin of this world through thee has planned!

such a hypocrisy, our modern cheaters are much more honest, they don't frown upon, say mech riding just because it's free while they paid money for theirs cheats

I think you have a couple of books mixed up. Mechwarrior is not Don Quixote.

Was knight errant a term coined in Don Quixote? Or is it a generic term to describe knight rank/methodology in past eras?

The concept of knights having "hax" is pretty funny.
